Troyer Won't Help Me With My Tunes

I waited for my troyer xcal 2 and 3 custom tunes for my 06 FX4 for 3 months and finally got them last september. I immediatly installed them in my truck and cut out down the highway. Anyway, when i started up any inclines at highway speed with my cruise control set, the torque converter would lock and unlock and wouldnt stop until i got goin down the hill. I called troyer and they said no problem, then they sent me more tunes. Those didnt work either, so they sent me some more. Point being, they wont return my emails or phone calls and i have had a useless product that i paid alot of money for goin on 9 months now. It's like they just gave up and dont care about making it right. All 3 tunes do the same thing and i refuse to let my truck take that kind of wear. 90% of my driving is done at highway speeds with inclines. Their solution was that i dont use cruise control and the my 305/65/18's were to blame. But when i was ordering my tunes, they said that the tire size would be just fine. Has anyone else had these kind of issues?

Yes the issue you are having has been experienced by others. Last I read about that they were supposed to be working on a fix but obviously it has not been resolved, at least for you. I've been out of the loop for a while though. I'd try some tunes from another tuner if I were you and see if that helps. You can get a single tune for ~$50.

its that torque predictive stadegy crap that ford does. Mine did it too, and when your making more power it something that sometimes happens. I have a friend with another popular tuner and his does it to sometimes. Its not a linear relationship like with other companies, its more of just a crappy design from ford componded by tunes. Does it just do it in cruise control???

I had kind of a similiar problem with my Edge. It didn't even matter if I was on a hill or not though. 68-72 mph and it'd unlock and lock up. If Troyer can't get it fixed for you and you're not getting the service you want, have you considered going to someone else for a custom tune? Justin at VMPTuning.com sells single tunes for $50. I'm not saying they'll be able to fix it either but it's worth a shot. If you do go with VMP, let Justin know the problem you're experiencing right now.

it kind of depends on the truck, mike finally got mine worked out but due to fords infinite knowlege and their 100s of pcm configurations its really on a case by case basis. Good luck with it though, it prob not the tuner but if you want to change it up give it a shot. It all roots from a dumb desogn by ford by the pedal not providing a linear response. Hope it gets worked out though

I'm not so sure about that. Like I said, I had that problem with my Edge and as soon as I got a custom tuned Xcal2, the problem disappeared. Just so I don't get anyone's panties in a bunch, I'm not saying Troyer isn't a good tuner because he is. Problems do happen time to time, we're all human.

sorry thump I didnt word that right. Yea it can be fixed, but the prooblem is a result from the ford design of the torque predictive system, which is the only manufactuer not to use a linear responce. Some pcm strategies used a more linear respnse than others, its really wierd how ford created 100s of pcm versions for this truck when all the other manufactures havd 5 -10. Who knows, but I did beat my friends new 08 2wd titan.

Sweet. I want to be able to beat my brother-in-laws 4wd titan. What mods do you have?

Are you talking about the shudder (troque converter locking/unlocking) when running level 3 with your Edge?

I had a shudder as well but it wasn't the tq locking and unlocking. I was experiencing a ROUGH unlock and lock, it was enough to throw your head around like a bobble head doll.

yes, it only does it when i have the cruise control set. like i said, i am just aggravated because it has been 9 months or so and i have just wasted 425 bucks or watever it was. i want some kind of retribution for the money i have spent already. but when i mentioned that i would pay for my tuner and asked if they would give me the money back on the tunes, they said that they dont do that. anyway, it's just aggravating. do yall feel that running 305's requires a gear change? that's wat troyer said that i would have to do.

No, I was running 37" tires on my 2006 F150 5.4L 4WD with 3.73s and a custom tuned Xcal2 from VMP Tuning with no problems with that.

I'd be mad, too. I'm suprised that he's not willing to help you out more.

I'm not suprised. He is just worried about taking the next guys money and making him wait 10 plus weeks for a tune that takes less than a day to do.

Get in line with the rest of the people that can't get Troyer to do the right thing. Do his burning up EFans ring a bell?
