05 fuel injector problem
05 fuel injector problem
I'm a newbie.
My 05 has been in shop 20 days.
They said 2 injectors stuck open.
Replaced 2 injectors changed oil and restarted, told me it was making noise from the bottom of engine and it was going to have to have an engine and Ford would pay.
A week after that they said Ford told them to change I believe he said cam timing sensor and the other two injectors on that side.
He originally told me two cylinders were down on compression 13 percent also.
This truck has 38000 miles and is out of factory warranty.
He said after the above work engine was not making noise but was still ideling rough.
Then they said he replaced other 4 injectors and plugs still rough idle.
Was taking exhaust apart next to check for plugged converter.
I have not heard back since, sounded like you guys may have some experience with Ford.
What do you think of all this or what should I tell them next I.m afraid I have serious problems and they are looking to blame this on something else not covered.
He originally told me new engine short block no problem now they seem to be lost.
This is a large Ford dealer.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

The 2005 Triton 5.4 has be plagued with injector issues. Ford has replaced many of these engines because of the bad injectors. I would not settle for less than a new engine. For now, you need to document, document, and document. All conversations, when, where, subject matter and keep it in a diary form. A diary is a legal document. If Ford backs out of the new short block, get an attorney before picking up the truck from the dealership. Some of the owners have gotten extended warrantys on the injection system but I don't have a reason why some got it and others didn't. I don't remember there being a redesign during the year model. Keep the faith and best of luck
Yeah, I just got something in the mail the other day about the fuel injectors on 05 F-150's w/5.4. They extended the warranty of my injectors to something like 5 years 100k miles (I may be off on that without looking at it again). It seems to me that there was some sort of problem with the injectors in our year.
Keep us posted.
Keep us posted.
I got the same letter. I was afraid this would happen!!!
The fuel injectors go bad causes in other issues and them not wanting to pay for it!!
yes keep us posted, bad news its just going to get worse the longer we have out trucks them saying we have x amount of miles ect and the fuel injectors couldnt of caused the problem.
BTW..I have a FX4 2005 with 38K and so far so good, BUT very worried about this issue too!
Also I hope they gave you a FREE lease car to use? Second ford has a hot line you can call them and they will assign you a rep and will work with you and the dealer! Long story short it helped me in the past!!!
The 800 number is in your owner's manual, your warranty booklet, your warranty card...
Good Luck!

Maybe I should give more insight.
I did get the letter and they are doing the things they have per that notice.
The truck began running real rough at idle one night ,run fine at road speed.
Acted like it was going to stall but never did. Shook from being so rough.
Took it to dealer next morning so I only drove it 25 or 30 miles in this condition.
Service advisor called back and said 2 injectors stuck open waiting on authorization.
2 days later said they replaced four on that side started it up and it was making noise and Ford told him to fax price for engine, then got into holidays
and waited week before contacting them said he had not heard back yet called me a couple of days later and said Ford told them to replace sensor on cam I don't know what that is and engine sounded ok no noise.
Said he wanted it to sit over weekend and start it Monday never heard back then I called and he said it was still ideling rough after all 8 injectors new plugs and oil change.
Still no communication so I called back today he says its ok when you give it gas idels at the proper rpm has no codes but idles so rough it shakes just like it did when I took it to them 21 days ago.
He has been pretty nice saying Ford is paying for this and he did give me an 08 F 150 after he said it needed engine and I've had it all along since the 2nd day.
I hate to get smart with them but I don't want to get screwed either.
Anybody have an idea what else could be bad.
Could it really have ruined the engine in such a short time.
Please advise and I will keep posting on this as it moves on.
I have showed up 3 times since it has been there it was outside once and inside the other two times but I never saw anything torn apart.
Thanks
Mike

Don't wat to hijack the thread, but had a question about this issue. My truck every once in a while will have a difficult time starting. This only happens when I have been driving the truck, turn it off, then try to restart it within a couple of minutes. It acts like it is going to start, then I soon as I release the starter it sounds like the engine chokes out. When this happens it usually takes me 4-5 attempts to get it restarted. I just kind of lived with the problem as it only happened maybe once every couple of weeks, but then I received the letter about the injectors from Ford and am wondering if that could be the problem.
I want to take it to the dealer to have it fixed if it is the result of the injectors, but it states in the letter that if the problem is determined not to be the injectors, then I will be responsible to pay for the diagnostic work.
So, question is, do you think this is due to the injectors, and if so, will they be able to determine that at the Ford dealer if they cannot duplicate the issue that I have been having?

I expiriance exactely what you are talking about. First i also thought it might be an Injector leak causing that hard to start issue. After it did it a couple of times to me i realised that after a few seconds of cranking the starter simply stops. Also the Infolights in the Dash go off. It must be somehow related to the Anti theft device cutting the Power or a problem in the electrical net causing that. The reason why it gives me a hard time to start afterwards is the injected, unignited fuel it chokes on.

I whish i knew. The only thing that at least helps to not have that horrible metallic sound when it finally starts is to wait a few minutes before trying. Once i´m not in a hurry i give it some time. It will still jerk a little but not as bad as it does when trying right away. The way it sounds i really hope its not doing to much harm to the Engine. Let me know if you ever find its cause.

My '05 is in the shop as we speak getting a new short block. Ford will only pay for the offending injectors, in this case three, not the remainder that are functioning. I am replacing the five that did not fail out of my pocket. I will definitely keep a paper trail on this one! It should be a recall issue. I'm concerned not only about it happening again, but the underlying damage to other components such as the catalytic converter.
My Ford dealership was very quick to get on this for me, although there rental car policy leaves something to be desired. Ford will only pay $28 a day, which will on cover the cost of a small car. I needed something bigger, so the difference comes out of my pocket also. Such a deal!!

My 2005 F150 Lariat with 30k had a problem running rough and back firing under hard acceleration. It was intermittent and not too bad when warm but could be quite severe when cold.
I took it in...the list so far is
5 injectors
3 plugs
2 broken plugs
(not sure if this means 5 plugs total or what...just found this out today)
Yeah, there's some problems with the design....

You are still under warranty arent you? If only by a month or so I would definetly make Ford pony up to this. No excuse for all the damage the dealership did to your engine with not being able to remove those plugs properly. Good luck my friend.

Update on 05 injectors

I visited my truck yesterday and they have my engine parts laying across 2 bays.Ford finally okd the engine and sent one ,mechanic said it looked like it had been dropped from an airplane and block had crack in it.More wasted downtime.I took a bunch of pics but don't know how to post them here.
He said these injectors are junk and they have already replaced about 4 or 5 engines, why they have screwed around for 1 month today I don't know.Said a new engine is due Monday and he should have it done mid week.He said engine hydrolocked from too much fuel and bent three rods they also broke 3 plugs which had seized up in the head.He says it will be good as new but I'm going to worry about the truck till I trade it off.Only had 38k and I bought it new.
Anyone that has problems better park it quick or be ready for a fiasco
Thanks
