How are you guys getting 17, 19 mpg? I find it hard to believe that your are getting that type of mileage with the 5.4 Screw with a 4x4 yet. I am only getting about 14 mpg. I have owned 4x4's my entire life and I have never seen 19mpg.

Heck, I have a 4x4 that when it gets 25, I complain. Of course it's pretty small... And made by Suzuki...

Living in Pen, you may not have a lot of long flat straight roads like Interstate 5 (almost a straight flat road for 800 of the 950 miles or so in this state. That helps a lot.

There are a lot of factors in the mileage on these trucks, and in the locations that the posters live. Also, most of the best mileage posted is from little trucks like my Reg cab 4x2, not the heavy Screws with 4 wheel drive.

Still, with this transmission, and careful driving, I think any of these trucks can get 18+ off ramp to off ramp, (which in this state can mean a 30 gallon tankfull between off ramps on just one leg of a trip) if driven at 55, without a trailer or heavy cargo.

Bears no relation to around town, small towns, city, bumper to bumper, up and down hills, or worst of all, very short hops where the motor never warms up. A truck that gets 13 around town can easily get 18 on steady speed flat running at a fair speed.

My truck if thrashed and run a lot stop and go gets down in the 14 range. But on the freeway, or back roads, it really shines.

I have yet to get more than 10.8 mpg. Mine is an 05 screw, 5.4l. Not sure of the rear gearing.

The info center has not shown more than 13 mpg since I drove it off the lot. My calculations indicate the 10.8 mpg.

I had it into the dealer for a blown fuse on wednesday. I asked them to look at the fuel economy issue. They put 12 miles on my truck with their monitor hooked up...they indicate 12/16? So basically "unable to verify customer complaint". I asked about the re-flash...they said that it only pertained to the 04's, and they assume that my 05 has the most current update.

Regards!

2004 FX4 SCAB mpg

I recently did a round trip - Phoenix, AZ / Eugene, Oregon. Total mileage was just under 2500 miles. I averaged 70 -75 mph, and the truck was fully loaded and has a camper shell. I got 18.6 mpg. I normally get 16 mpg mixed city/highway driving.

On my last fill up, I got 19.95 mpg. 2005 xlt 2wd, 5.4L, 3.73 LS.
Needless to say, I was impressed. That was mostly driving with th a/c off, as the temps have moderated some here.

I think my best was right around 23 when I was driving from Ft. Worth to LaGrange TX after a cold front, so I had a semi-impressive tailwind working in my favor.

Of course, 23 is with a 2002 six-banger 4x2 with around 45K miles (at the time).

Mine's an '05 SCREW Lariat, 3.55 ls, 5.4 engine:
Best hwy fuel economy: 21.8 mpg (calculated)
Avg. hwy fuel economy: 19-20 mpg, say 19 mpg

Best city fuel economy: 14.8 mpg (calculated)
Avg. city fuel economy: 13.5 mpg

$90 fill-ups are indeed hurting.

04' FX4 Screw. 16.5 mpg is my best, all highway from San Diego to Vegas. I normally get 13 mpg mixed driving.

Thank God I have my 99' BMW 328I for my day to day uses. Even though it uses premium, I still get around 19.5 mpg mixed driving and 28 mpg highway.

I've been getting between 12 - 13 since I bought the truck. I read that the re-flash will help with the acceleration/hesistation, but does it do anything for mileage?

Um, I drive the LA freeways a lot. In Colorado you might get by doing say, 40 in a 45 zone, but around here if you ain't doin 50 in a 40 zone, you get rear ended.

I took it easy yesterday, had a short drive into the valley and back, 228 miles, and averaged 53 mph, top speed of 88. Just staying with traffic.
Never the fastest car, never the slowest.
Got 21.3 MPG for the day.
My ScanGauge tracks that sorta trivia... Wouldn't want to have a cop read it out...

Been getting 15 around town since I put the Regular tune in my truck. That was enough, so on the way home I re-tuned to premium (takes just about the time it takes to scarf down a couple burgers).

Too much power drop on regular, and 1-1.5 less MPG. At these prices I can now honestly say Premium tune pays for itself.
Chris

Oh yeah, to fill it with Shell Premium cost 68 bucks for 21 gallons at a station by the Bob Hope Airport. (Used to be Burbank airport, where they shot the scene in Casablanca)
