Need a Little Help

Hey guys,
Sirius install help
I'm not very "smart" when it comes to radio installs, but I need some help.
I installed a PIE adaptor, ran the power to it from the aux power port(spliced into both lines.

Then I did the sirius install with splicing into same aux port (not a seperate splice just tied all the wires together) and used a store bought extension post in which to plug in the power adapter for the sirius.

Was working fine until this morning when I used the power port to charge my cell, and I think I blew a fuse.

Is there a better way I should wire it. If so which wires off the head unit or where should I get the power for the PIE and sirius. And how important is it to ground it to the chassis compared to using the other wire off the aux power port.

Jon

Hi there... just posted a question about a setup which I think you already have. Are you running a PIE and OEM sirius tuner box together?? Do they work OK or do they conflict with each-other at all? Does the radio know which is which when you hit the aux button? About your question, maybe you can power one off the power port and the other off the cig lighter? I beleive they are powered by seperate fuses.

It is not an OEM sirius unit, but a sirius sportster unit.
But yes the PIE adapter does work very well and does recognize the unit in the AUX mode.

Yes I think you are correct I must have to split them up. But it was funny that it just happened today.

i'm you could just increase the size of the fuse, or your fuse was just plain on its way out. I have had the cig lighter fuse blow with just the charger plugged in and the cell not connected.

i would just jump up by 5 amps when replaceing the fuse. I run both my charger or a rooftop light (for plowing) and my sportser off the same plug in my 88

PLEASE don't try this!! I am a firefighter, electrician and have been messing with car wiring since I could drive... this is what causes wires to overload, heat up and start a fire. I have seen it happen to friends of mine trying to take a shortcut when installing amps and such.. one I can remember is my buddy driving down the street and his back seat caught fire!! Not trying to be a jerk but this is the stuff that can really cause a problem!

I was able to get my PIE/IPod to work with the Satellite Radio with a simple switch. Since the PIE connects between Sat radio and the head unit, I put in a switch that turns the power to the PIE unit or to the Sat radio unit separately. There is an existing power and ground plug for the sat that can be spliced and put through a switch to route the power to the PIE device. It works great.
