Sirius Install question

I got a new Sirius radio w\car kit for xmas for my 2004 F-150 Lariat. Now I need to install it. I ordered a pro fit mount for the sirius radio dock, and a PIE adaptor to integrate into my audiophile stereo. Now I need to install the Sirius antenna.

I have read that some have installed it under the plastic cowl in front of the windshield, and others have installed it over the 3rd brake light. I am looking for suggestions on the easiest \ best place to install it.

If under the cowl, any directions on how to remove the cowl (does this location effect reception)? Also, My brake light does not leak, and I am concerned that installing the antenna will cause a leak. What about just placing it on the dash, will that yield good reception?

your suggestions and directions are appreciated.

Thanks !

i installed mine above the third brake light. i also ran the wire from the top, around the side and in the bottom, this will limit the chance for a leak. then i ran the wire all along the headliner, down the A pillar, under the glove box, and up to the radio, very easy, and no wires show at all.

Here's a thread that has a post by B-Man that shows how he installed his antenna under the wiper cowl. I think he has the older body style f150, but you can use the same concept on the newer f150's. I installed mine in the same location. The first page and the second page of the thread has detailed pics. Good luck.

I sat mine on the front dash, just in front of the tray and get good reception. Running a Clarion Calypso/PIE combo right now, but that is moving to the wifes Windstar. I am getting ready to install the Kenwood 501 and got the Sirius tuner for it. That is the project for this weekend and I'll report back if the reception degrades.

That's pretty much exactly how I ran mine except I went in the top of the brake light. I recently opened it up after days of rain and it was bone dry inside. The newer trucks (at least mine) have a really thick weatherstrip that seem to easily consume the small Sirius antenna wire.

Also, been through an automatic car wash and it didnt' budge. Only time I lose signal is going under an overpass at low speed, and at the bank drive thru, sometimes.
