Question Sirius User Question

I recently purchased a 2006 with Sirius radio, it was working when I got it, I never called up to Sirius and have never been contacted by them. The radio comes with 6 months free service, what happens after that? Do they contact me or just shut it down? I understand that there is a module in the dash under the radio. Can that be removed and use with other Auto radios that have the aux mode on them? Thanks

I'm in the same boat, I'm pretty sure they will just shut it down after 6 months or maybe they'll just start sending us bills for the service.

I'm not sure about your second question...sorry.

I would assume that Ford has sent them your informationa nd they will bill you after the 6 months are over. I would not think they would cancel it because they want to keep you as a customer. give them a call and find out 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474)

I would imagine they would do the same as XM. My dad has a Buick Raineer that came with a year of XM free. He received a bill in the mail at about nine months.

Regards!

setting up continued service

I also have the 2006 setup, less than six months old. According to the sirius web site, they will not automatically renew your service. Here's the procedure:
  1. Have your radio's ESN ready (see your owner's guide)
  2. Go to www.sirius.com (or call the number in your owner's guide)
  3. Look for "Manage Account" link at bottom of page
You may have to call to setup a login, anyway.
Once at your account page you'll see:

Account Notification
Your account has one or more plans that will not automatically renew. Please choose a plan now so your service doesn't end unexpectedly.
click on "Extend Plan" to see:

Select When to Upgrade
Upgrade your subscription plan today and save! If you upgrade now, the balance of your current subscription will go toward the cost of your subscription upgrade, and your service will continue uninterrupted. If you wait until your subscription expires, you'll pay full retail price for your upgrade.
You'll see various plans listed...and be shocked.

click on "Other Plans" to see:

Lifetime Plan: $499.99
Pay a one-time fee of $499.99 for the lifetime of your satellite radio. NEW: You may now transfer your lifetime plan to up to three new satellite radios (subject to $75 transfer fee).
At this point I'm trying to decide if sirius will be around long enough to make my subscription worthwhile, not to mention if it is something I "just gotta have". I don't know, but I have several months to wait and see. Needless to say, if I do extend, I'll be selecting something from "Other Plans"...

sirius came free with my wifes 05 town and country. they sent me a notice in the mail that one radio was going to expire so i renewed it. sirius just closed a deal with volkswagen to put sirius in new vw's. sirius would not go out of business. they would be bought out by xm or another satellite provider first. sirius stock went up .38 cents today.

The way things are going for XM, it may be Sirius who buys them in a few years. With Stern and Nascar going to Sirius, XM is losing a lot of subscribers.

Talking

I have had a sirius sat radio for over two years now.
I really doubt that it is going to go away, or be bought out by XM.
I could not imagine ever going back to a regular radio again and even CDS have stopped being used in my truck.
The sirius selection is just to huge to go back.

Hi guys,
New here...cool site too.
I just got my 2006 and the sat radio was already working as of 20 miles on the odometer without me calling them to start it. I didnt sign any contracts or give sirius any information on me so how can they bill me? Further more no one ever told me that it was just for 6 months free. I assumed since Ford has a deal going with them that it was included in the price of buying the new vehicle. I was kinda hoping to get it free...lol
Any other new 2006 guys have views on this?
Thanks
Mike

I heard that you shouldn't try to renew until you have to. Otherwise, your "billed" time will start when you call them. I will wait until I get a notice, or shut off and then renew.

Thumbs up Sirius

I also got the 6 months free Sirius when I bought my '06 F150. Just last week I got a letter from Sirius asking me to extend the service to a year for 50 bucks and change. I called their number right away so I could get this great savings but these people at Sirius had never heard of this letter. I even talked to the supervisor and she did not know of this promotion. She said to wait until it gets close to running out then call and extend it. BTW, I had to give her my VIN# to prove Ford had me signed up. They found my account but nothing about this letter. I gave up for the time being and will call back later after somebody tells them about this letter. ( I hope ) . I really like Sirius, I can't imagine NOT having it.

I got the same run around.Sent a copy and 6 other pages if info to Sirius.Never did get to hear back from them. Finally called the toll free number around 3am one morning and got someone who knew about the discount from Ford.Got all signed up for around $10.00 a month.By the way the six months free started when your truck was built and deleivered.not when you bought it.They do that so it be available for demo purposes.Acording to the manual the radio will just shut off when the freebie expires.

I don't know if it would work cross mfgr, but the factory setup uses the CAN bus interface on the radio, and either the AUX or SAT button.

So if you are asking if you can move this to a GM...got me, I don't know if GM uses CAN buss interfaces on their radios.

The other thing is, I don't know for sure what the antenna connector is for the factory rcvr. I would guess SMB like most seem to be, but you never can tell if they did something else like SMA. Kind of hard to tell from this picture :

here is the best diagram I can find for the factory rcvr:

Bought 06 with SIRIUS on 30 Jan 06. Received form letter from SIRIUS/Ford dated 02 March 06. Letter identifies 3 packages (12, 24 & 36 mo) inc pricing. Contact info given as 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474). Letter also included info on "free" application of SIRIUS to home computer as part of deal.

I too have an '06 F-150 w/sirus radio. Called Sirus to extend my subscription. Operator said she needed my Account # or reciever ID #. Told her I wasn't given anything like that from Ford Dealership. She tried finding me by name but I wasn't listed as having an account. Called Ford dealership and they said all they do is send Sirus a notice that the vehicle has been sold. That apparently is how Sirus got my name for the letter I got from them wanting me to extend my subscription. I asked Fords if the ID #'s are recorded somewhere when they built the vehicles to mach up to the vin # . They said as far as they know they don't (oops!). After talking to my saleslady again she told me to bring the truck in and she will get someone to pull the module to get the ID#s. Sounds like a goofy deal to me. I don't think the guys in the service dept will be to thrilled if the have to pull a radio module for everyone that want's to extend there subscription. Besides if they can't find me now how will they turn off my radio after 6 months?

UPDATE 5/18/06: I tried contacting Sirius 1 more time, this time after midnight and the operator said right away that they can find me with the vin# of my truck. He told me some dealerships activate radio at prep time prior to customer taking delivery, others let the factory activate radio. When factory activates radio the 6 months subscription starts on build date so if it sits on the lot for a while you may not get 6 months free. I only got 5 months free, took delivery of truck 12/28/05, subscription set to end 5/23/06. Ran my vin#, found my account and I now have an extended subscription to Sirius at the discount the letter stated.
