What do I need to hard/direct wire Sirius?
What do I need to hard/direct wire Sirius?
I'm a dumby. I just got Sirius and want to hard/direct wire the unit directly into my radio for my 2004 FX4. I have the factory 6 disc radio with factory amp and sub. I have an "aux" button and want to use that for Siruis. I'm assuming there are RCA jacks in the back of the unit. I need to know the part number and any recommendations you vets may have. I would think it's nothing more than a wire with RCA jacks on one end and Sirius connection on the other. I'm at wits end and would love any feedback!
I am also a satellite dummy, but have just started to do research on adding and hardwiring Sirius to my 05 F150 w/Audiophile.
There are no RCA jacks on the HU. Because of this you need to purchase a P.I.E. adapter. Here is a link to the one I believe is correct for our vehicles. Please verify before you order becasue, like I said, I am a dummy.

Thanks for the answer and link! I wonder if it's worth the money to go that route over using the FM deal. My wife has Sirius in her Expedtion using the FM and it's ok, not great. I told myself that the only way I would do it in my truck was if I was able to hardwire it directly into the radio using the "aux" button.
The Sportster in my wife's Exploder is running off the FM transmitter. She had alot of bleed over from the local stations. I unscrewed her antenna and now the bleed over is gone. Really made a big difference.
The Audiophile system in my truck is an upgrade. I bought a HU off eBay and upgraded the door speakers. I also added a powered Bazooka sub. CDs sound incredible on the system. The FM just sounds OK. I will be trying to increase the sound quality of radio with Sirius.
Everything I have read tells me the direct hook-up is the way to go if you want to get the most out of what satellite has to offer. Most people who have posted on this topic started using FM modulation and were disappointed, then used the P.I.E. adapted and noticed an dramatic difference. Many have described the outcome as CD quality from the radio.
I figure over a five year period, I will have spent almost $900.00 for the service and the satellite radio equipment. For me, the $85.00 additional investment for P.I.E. should be a worthy investment to try and get what I was looking for from the start.
If not, I have already started lying to my wife about the money I have spent on mods. One more lie ain't gonna kill her..........lol.

With the '04 and the CAN bus system non SAT ready radios with the AUX button use the FRD04-AUX.

Pull down the application guide for it, to confirm this.

The big one, is it must have the AUX button on the radio, not the CD/AUX button.
I guess take a look at the radio face you have, and confirm this from the application guide and if you want, www.logjamelectronics.com has some pictures of the radio faces, you can do a stare and compare with.
If you know the build date of the truck it was pulled from, that would help you out. The trucks with build dates after I think it is 16-DEC-05 had the built in Sirius option, and the FRD04-AUX does not seem to work with those.
Maybe using a 20 pin connector from Blitzsafe or Soundgate might do the trick ?? Again this is without the RSE system in the truck, as it uses the same interface. Again you would need to get some more specifics on the radio you have, and check the application guides.
