Other than roof, where else can i mount Sirius antenna?

From what i've read, the roof sounds like the best place to mount the Sirius antenna for the best reception, but is there another place to mount it out of sight and still get good reception? I'm a little paranoid to "advertise" that i have satellite to would-be-thieves.

I've read about some of the guys on here putting them in the recessed area under the plastic sheeting that protects the wiper motors. So far, no complaints about reception. Whenever I get around to it I think thats what I'm gonna do.

Antennae mount

Some have mentioned palcing it under the plastic windhshield cowl.

If you look at my post -- Starmate Replay install -- you'll see tht I mounted it directly between the defroster ducts. Seems to work fine.

I slid the antenna under the wiper cowling on the passenger side. It is an easy reach with the door open and the magnet is strong enough that it won't move. I ran the wire through the door connector gromet. I have no problem with reception in Alberta unless I don't wipe the snow off.

I have mine mounted with double sided tape on the dashboard at the base of the windshield.

I also have mine on the dash.

I have no problem in my area with reception and even still receive signal inside my garage with the overhead door closed.

i have mine up by the defroster under the windshield and it seems to work ok.

as far as thieves, i would think that if it gets stolen you cancel the subscription and the unit is worthless. it has an electronic serial number. if the guy is dumb enough to reactivate it, it should be pretty easy to catch him since you have to provide an address and credit card.

I think the most popular are the under-the-cowl and on or under the dash. My Sportster Replay is on the way and I plan on placing the antenna on the dash drive to and from work then try under the cowl for the same, I also want my antenna somewhere other than the roof, but I want the best reception also. It's a good idea to test a few locations before you mount and hide the wire. Good luck.
