XM Roady2 Install...2005 f150

Here's how I installed my XM Roady2 in my 05 F150. I installed it in the 1st overhead bin (I bought the other 2 bins) I ran the Antenna out through the 3rd brake light anf tapped into the power already in the head liner. I ran the Aux line from the Roady to the PIE auxiliary input adaptor. I hated the FM modulator even the FM direct sounded like AM radio quality. PIE just started shipping the aux adapter for the 04 & 05 F150s. The Aux adapter sounds CD quality and I just press the Aux button instead of an FM station. I also made a wedge to angle the Roady toward me for easier viewing. Then double sided tapped it to the roady and the overhead bin (I cut the foam for a better stick) Anyways, thought I'd share what I did in case otheres wanted to mount it out of the way.

Ok so you took the Ant out the back top brake light? and where was the power. I have the Roady sitting a box and couldn't figure out how to get it in with out messing up my week old truck. Where did you get the adapter? Does that just plug into the back of the stock Stereo?

If you have the rail system in your truck there is a wire harness in the head liner when you take the bin off (about an inch in froont of the hole) its taped to the liner. There are 3 wires, ground black, 12v green, and 12v switched Blue and white (double check yours). You need to buy a femail cigerette lighter adaptor ($6 radio shack) to wire to the ground and switched 12v wires and then plug the roady2 into that. THE ROADY2'S LIGHTER ADAPTER IS ALSO A 6V CONVERTER, DO NOT BYPASS IT!

I bought the PIE FRD04-AUX adapter. It plugs into the radios wire harness and gives you the RCA inputs. Its about $80-$90. You need to run a headphone minijack wire from your roady to this adapter, then use a converter to convert the mini jack to RCA. I used a 6' mini jack and 3" converter. Its easy to run, 2 5/32" screws on the passenger side hand rail, 3 screws for the visor and the head liner pops down enough to feed the wire to the over head bin. Then press in on the right side of the glove box to drop it down and pull the face plate off the dash and un screw the stereo. You can save money and buy the FM direct adapter ($24 at Circiut City) and its easier, you don't need to pull the stereo out, the antenna jack is behind the glove box. It works, but doesn't sound as good.

I made the wedge out of wood and painted it black. Its 3/4" the same size as the roady and tapered it from 3/4" to 0". thi isn't necessary, but it makes it easier to see from the drivers seat.

RumLuver,

My truck is only 2 weeks old, no worries, it doen't mess it up. This way I think looks the best. Since you will probably need to order the PIE adapter, I mounted the power, antenna and roady first, Ran the Mini plug wire and RCA plug converter and just left the mini plug unpluged until I recieved the PIE adapter. Then when I recieved it, I just pulled my stereo and pluged it in (less than 5 min)

I don't have the rail system but there are 2 dome lights up there. They should give me enough power. The ant is still ify though. Did you just drop the headliner and run it out through the brake light on the top back of the CAB? I did this with my Chevy and it worked OK but I did a bad job of it.

I used a wire snake for fishing wires through walls.
