Question XM MyFi

I am looking to buy my wife a XM for our anniversary. Has anyone had experience with this model, and if so how do you feel the reception is for having an internal antenna? Can you add and external antenna to it if you are in the car/truck?

Any info you have based upon personal experiences would be great, I have read a little about it on the web, but still have questions.

Thanks.

The built in antenna is not good at all. It works well if you have a local repeater or you sit it in clear line of sight of one of the birds.

The MiFi comes with both a car cradle and a home crade and a home antenna and car antenna. It also has a little clip on portable antenna with is not all the great.

I can tell you that this is a great little radio though - you wont be disappointed with it. I have some pictures of how I installed it in my gallery.

The internal antenna is good for stationary use (unit sitting outdoors on a table, etc). for walkabout use, your body is constantly blocking the signal.

for portable live reception (walkman like wearing) the optional antenna headphones are your best bet.

for a board for everything xm, go to www.xm411.com

you will learn much more there.
