Sirius Install Finished - 2001 Lightning
Sirius Install Finished - 2001 Lightning
I just wrapped up my Sirius install. I love it.
I went with the JVC 960 Sirius ready headunit and the Sirius Connect tuner that goes with it. It was a very simple install and I could not be happier with the results.
I put the tuner box under the dash, made for a quick easy run to the back of the headunit with the J Bus wire.

I wasn't really too big on the idea of running the antenna on the roof, for a bunch of reasons really. Someone could just cut the wire and ruin my night, it could get damaged in a car wash, it could scratch the paint, I would have to run it out the brake light and risk a leak. I know these things aren't likely, but I didn't want to have to worry about it. I stuck it right on the dash, 15" from the tuner box's hidden home.

It gets three bars nearly always, it was getting 2 in some spots today but the weather was really overcast and stormy all day. Seems to be a great spot, at least with this antenna. If for some reason I don't want to alert everyone that walks by the truck that there's a Sat. radio in the truck, I can throw a baseball hat over it.
Here are some shots of the deck in action:

You can turn the internal amp to low, high, or off if you have a dedicated external amp setup. I do not, but I do have Polk speakers all the way around and they love the high power setting.

Pretty decent EQ setup. 3 user settings with tons of adjustability (Q bandwidth settings etc...) I mess with this far too much.

And... a couple of shots of what it looks like when you're tuned in to a station.

I love everything about the whole setup. The lack of super annoying local business' commercials is a very welcome change.

Install looks good. I just got the Xact stream jockey set-up. I think Sirius is pretty cool!
I placed the antenna on the dash also, but I am starting to re-think that. My reception cuts out quite often, and I have only had it a week! I placed my antenna in the center of the dash.
There has been some mention of putting the antenna under the cowl. I wonder how well that works. Looks pretty easy to do!

Kevin
