roady2 install in 2004 F150 screw

Looking for accessories for a neat install. I have the factory 6-disc in-dash changer that has an aux button and would love to hook into the aux instead of using fm modulation. Also, would like to hard wire the power and not use the cigarette lighter. Any ideas, links, products?

www.myradiostore.com is your best bet. They have mounts, hard wire options, and plenty of other accessories. I don't think you'll find anything on the AUX mod, though. Apparently there is a manufacturer out there who is supposed to have something in the near future, but nothing yet.

Also, www.xm411.com and www.xmfan.com are good sources of information.

Best of luck.

I installed a Roady2 in my 04 SCREW. Since there is no way right now to use the AUX input, I used a wired FM modulator. As for the power, since the Roady takes 6V & you can't wire it directly, I used a female 12V outlet (cig lighter) from Radio Shack. It comes with about six feet of wire attached to it which I spliced into the radio power wires. I plugged the Roady's power cord into it & tucked everything in neatly behnd the dash. When I turn the key on the Roady comes on. Pretty simple other than getting the center portion of the dash off.

Here is where I placed my Roady2, adn so far no problems...

I did the same thing basically as Spargo2, except that I spliced into the powerpoint with the plug that came with the in-line fm kit. Then I added a splitter and i have my Roady2 and Radar Detector wired through the same plug. I did it this way because I wasn't sure which wire was switched power in teh radio harness. One day I'll get back in there and wire it to the radio.

That looks exactly like my install. Nice job. spydrev, as far as removing the center dash section, the best way I found to do it was to open the cup holder & gently pull as hard as I could & work your way to the top. If the center has never been out it can be a pain in the a$$ but it will come off. Do a search on "roady" & you should find instructions on pulling the center. Good luck.

thanks for the tips. How about routing the antenna wire? I heard a lot of folks use the 3rd brake light opeingin on top of the cab, but that seems like a long run thru the interior of the cab. How about along the outer edge, passenger-side, of the windshield? Seems like there should be a hole for the stock antenna feed around there?

I didn't like the idea of routing it to the 3rd brake light. Knowing my luck it would leak. I ran my through the existing hole in the firewall on the drivers side, up underneath the cowl, & under the weather stripping on the drivers side of the windshield. The ant. is mounted above the upper drivers side corner of the windshield. I have yet to loose reception.

Spydrev,

I routed mine through the third brake light, and no problems. It was a long run, but it was easy to tuck it away and I still had a couple feet of antenna wire left.

However, a lot of people here are routing their's through a grommet on the firewall and then underneath the wiper cowl for that "stealth" install. They say no reception problems, and I plan redo mine someday.......

did you have to remove the windshield weatherstripping, or does it just fit into that little groove?

There is a thin flat piece of stripping that runs from the cowl to the roof line. I used a paint scraper to gently lift the edge & routed the cable underneath.
