My Sirius install
My Sirius install
Here is the details and pics of my Sirius install. Its a 00 Ford F150 S cab Lariat 4X4. The original HU was replaced (before I got the truck) with an Alpine 7892 HU. Its the motorized unit that opens up to accept a CD. Nice unit if you ask me. Anyway, its an XM ready unit, but will work with Siruis as well. I bought the SIR-ALP1 Alpine compatable Sirius tuner. The dash trim around the AC and radio just pops off and 2 screws are removed to release the radio . I opened the glove box and found that to the right of the actual box was a cubby hole just the perfect size for the tuner unit. I ran the power and Ai-net cable behind the dash to the radio. I taped into the radio wiring harness to provide the Sirius tuner with a constant 12v and a ground. I have not figured out where I am going to permanantly mount the antennea but its just sitting on the dash and I get a good signal. So far I have found out that the Alpine HU will either scroll the station name OR the song title, but not both at the same time. However I am still figuring out the features of this HU. The install took about 35 minutes for me to do and was very simple.

I am still checking out all the channels, so far its pretty neat. I ended up running the antenea wire up underneath the top of the dash so it sits right on the dash in front of the windshield.

I live in the Los Angeles area and the signal goes out several times a day with the antenna on the dash. I am just not a big fan of putting any crap on the body of the truck. I will keep it on the dash, its fine for me.
