re: f150 truck dog

Post a photo. I've played around with dozens of locations in the F-150's and have a few choice mounting points depending on where you want them you want need to do much of anything. Also which unit do you have. XM Delphi, Sirius Brix, SkyFi...etc.

Most stores don't. I fabricated one out of eighth inch thick plastic, a C-clamp and a heat gun (took thirty seconds to shape it). Held on with automotive and weather grade double sided tape on the piece and on the unit. If you want I can send you a picture and some instructions on how to do it.

I still need to know which unit you have so I know which bracket/s you can consider and locations to review.

That would be great. Ive got 2004 Ford F150 Lariat. The radio is the Delphi MyFi Radio(the handheld).

Any pics of your mount or advice would be appreciated.

Check out www.myradiostore.com

I have the ProFit Swivel mount for my MyFi. They are vehicle specific mounts.

mount

It is made by Bracketron and is phmini4. it took some adjusting(tin snips and bending) but is the same concept as the vsp and for $25 couldn't pass it up. It seems to wobble a little on bumpy roads but otherwise works great. I just fed my antenna to the mat or holder or whatever that is in the center of the dash and I have no probs with signal. I just set it up there with the antenna wire going in at the bracket and stuffing the excess wire on top of the stock radio an come out the top of the dash where the "mat" meets the dash.

I have the ProFit mount in mine... absolutely NO wobble. It's VERY solid.

Sportster Mount

I did not like where the standard bracket from best buy placed the Sirius Sportster radio (to the right of the factory radio). I used the XM cup holder bracket, sold at most eletronic stores. The only modification was to fit the Sportster car mount to the XM cup holder mount. That was done by drilling three holes into the XM mount. It sits right next to the shifter and is easier to reach then the factory radio. The wires are tucked under the ashtray an cant be seen unless you look directley over the top of the Sportster. The ashtray still opens without touching the Sportster. Overall i was very happy with it. The only drawback is the Sportster is a bit wobbley, but you dont notice it unless your looking right at it.

While I'm not overly thrilled with the placement of my MyFi, the ProFit mount provided a place that was high enough that, if I was looking at the MyFi, I could still have vision while driving through my peripheral.

I originally had my MyFi in a cup holder but, I was terrified that I was going to rear-end someone because I wasn't paying attention...

I mean, I've been none to talk on my phone, eat a Big Mac, surf through stations on XM, and widdle a stick (all at the same time) while driving. One less thing I suppose...

That was my rationale...

Be safe out there!

I have the ProFit mount with SkyFi in my 2001 and it wobbles a lot and is getting worse. I now have creaking dash syndrome due to the SkyFi doing a dance as I drive down the road. The mount for the 2001 model supports (or I should say "attempts to support") the weight of the SkyFi with a piece of sheet metal extending horizontally from the dash and invites a lot of flex. I've seen mounts for the later F150s and it is rotated to support the unit on a vertical plane. Anyone else had a similar problem with the earlier F150s and how did you solve it?

TIA

I made a bracket and used the adjustable mount that came with the kit. I mounted it above my mirror. It's for the most part out of site if you look in the truck, not in my way at all, does not cover any vents, easy to reach and easy to view. Ran the power and antenna above the roof liner. the antenna went out my 3rd brake light and the power down the pillar under the dash.

rpm -

Did you glue/tape the mount to the windshield? Or mount on the mirror somehow? I've been considering trying to use the tape mount on dash but the way the surface curves I don't think it will stick. I hadn't thought of sticking it to the windshield.

Thanks.

I just did this last week - I was having "wobble" issues with previous set ups and wasn't happy. I have a Streamer which is relatively large and heavy compared to other sat radios.
The pocket under the cupholder is solid enough. Don't mind loosing the cupholder since I couldn't use it anyways due to my Jotto desk.

I went with the Bracketron and love it. I have recieved several complements on how it looks. It does not shake at all no matter how hard of bump I hit. Here's a pic of what it looks like. Since I took the pic I have cleaned up the wiring so that it is nearly hidden and the lighter door can be closed.
