Alpine CDA 9830 + XM

So Crutchfield has these while quantities last for $249.99 (originally $349.99, then $329.99). It’s a pretty decent head unit with front, rear, and subwoofer 4v preamp outputs, built in EQ, crossover, etc. The XM tuner and brand specific adapter are each $49.99. Anyway.

I used the mounting stuff Crutchfield gives you for free but later I plan to make a solid panel of ABS similar to what B-MAN did. I am currently using the stock speakers and wiring with an adapter so the Alpine just plugs right in. I mounted the XM Tuner module in a little cubbyhole beside/behind the glove box door. I used a heavy double-sided adhesive pad that came with another XM kit I used in my wife’s car but if you cleaned the surfaces well with alcohol some 3m tape should do the trick just fine. I mounted the adapter module/cables that connect the XM box to the Alpine behind/below the climate control box (next to the white dryer hose looking pipe) and just zip-tied it in place so it doesn’t rattle.

The adapter connects to the head unit with a single cable using an 8pin AiNet plug. It connects to the XM module with a RCA patch cable and another cable using a modular plug.

I ran the antenna wire down the right side of the glove box behind the kick panel (next to the fuel reset button) under the door trim/kick plate to the rear and then up the pillar across the top of the headliner (inside the roof framing) and out the 3rd brake light hole.

Soon I’ll be installing my Kappa 572.5cf speakers in all 4 doors and adding some subs and a Soundstream VGA 800.5 amp under the front seat.

What's your game plan for where you are going to install the subs?

I'm either going to buy one already built or build my own box that will fit under the rear seat to hold 2 10" subs

I take it that you didn't even bother installing the xm antenna under the cowling?

went with the recommendation of XM and put it on the highest, metal point of the vehicle.

Hey Pro....double check that install kit that came from Crutchfield. You should have a DIM trim kit ring that fits around the reciever. i wasn't too happy w/ the Alpine fit-n-finish w/ the Crutchfield kit, that was until I pried off the Alpine trim kit from the reciever and intalled the DIN trim kit that came from Crutchfield. It was a tight fit, but worked out flawlessly and looks real nice. I can still pop off the face plate w/o any trouble.

My head unit face is motorized and needs the clearance of the Alpine trim ring. The crutchfield trim ring does look better than what I have now but the motorized face hits it. When I make my own mount it will look better

Use the IMG button under the "vB Code" section just above the "Your Reply" box.

Alternatively, use
