XM roady help

I got an XM radio for chrismas and have been wanting to install it. My truck righ now has a factory 6 disk cd changer and the rest is all factory too. I am going to buy a single disk factorycd player out of a 2003 f150 to get rid of the 6 disk cd changer. My questions are...

1. Will the unit from a 2003 f150 fit into a 2000 f150. Just want to make sure all the plugs fit.

2. Is there a way to hardwire the roady 2 to the factory unit out of a 2003 f150. i went to the xm store website and the way I took it was that you had to have a port for a cd changer too. I dont think that the unit out of the 2003 has a port for that. And also the picture on the website of the pie adapter had RCA plugs on it. So where would those go? (2 questions I guess)

3. Are there any pictures of where any of yall have mounted your units?

4. What is the best way to hardwire the power cable for the roady?

5. Where can I get a set of ford keys to take out the factory head units?

I would appreciate and advice or suggestions also

Thanks guys
Brett

I'm not sure why you're getting rid of a 6 CD changer?

Anyway, here's my shot at answering your questions:

1) Your best bet is probably your Ford dealer for compatability questions. These things can easily change from year to year.

2) I don't think there is - yet. In my 2005, there is an AUX button that apparently only works with a factory DVD system, or possibly a CD changer. An adaptor is due out pretty soon to let you hardwire a satellite radio, ipod, or the like to your factory radio.

3) https://www.f150online.com/galleries...w.cfm?num=7595

4) I bought a Universal AC Adaptor from Radio Shack, spliced it into the power wire going to the Power Point, plugged the Car adaptor into it, and stuffed it all behind the dash.

5) I agree with the eBay suggestion.

Best of luck.

Does anybody have any advice on how to power the Roady2 (other than plugging it into the obvious cig lighter)? I'm considering either:

1. The 'add-a-circuit' option, where you draw the power by piggybacking off of a fuse in the fuse box, then adding a 12v outlet and hiding it below the dash somewhere, or

2. Powering it via a splice behind the dash somewhere.

I'm not exactly sure where or how to splice it in since everything is 12v in the truck, and the receiver only needs 6v. I'm pretty sure that powering it with 12v would fry the unit.

DAThomas, you mentioned it above....did you essentially add a 12v cig lighter, hide it inside your dash behind the stereo head unit, and plug the Roady powercord into it?)

My big question is, should I cut off the end of the power cord and splice it into power somewhere, or should I add a cig lighter somewhere (either below dash or behind dash) and just plug the cord into it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

littlemo,

What you described is what I did. The AC Adaptor that comes with the radio and plugs into either the cigarette lighter outlet or Power Point converts the power to work with whatever piece of equipment it comes with. Adding the additional adaptor costs $7 from Radio Shack, and it comes with the gadget to tap into an existing powered wire. I tapped off of the existing Power Point power wire.

Thanks DAThomas...I just wanted to make sure I understood you clearly. I pulled the dash apart tonight and there is plenty of room to stuff an additional adaptor back there!

Thanks for everyones help.
Alll my friends keep asking me why I am getting rid of the 6 disk also and they think Im nuts. I jest dont like driving down the road and having to fight with the cd changer inside the console to change cd's. I like to keep things simple.
I went to the local autozone and got a set of the keys to pull out the radio (4.99).
The 2003 radio fits perfectly and it also has a little fan on it to keep the internals cool.
also put on a VSM mount and it fits very nicely.

Tnaks sgain
