Xm radio content??
Xm radio content??
Ok I've about talked myself into getting the Xm commander, but I need to ask a few more questions.
1) The music played on Xm, is it "edited" for content such as curse/swear words?
2) I was checking the stations I've heard you guys talking about using for FM modulation and on each channel I could clearly make out people talking, I thought these were supposed to be "open" channels? Will this affect the quality of my audio?
3) If you installed the commander yourself, on a scale of 1-10 (10=hardest) how hard is it? I've got adequate mechanical skills so that shouldn't be an issue.
4) Where did you mount the "brain" box in the center console? And as far as hooking into a power source, which wire? I'll have the audiophile system.
Oh yeah I'll be installing it in the ash tray!

1. Yes, some of the channels are edited however; many are not. If the channel name has xL in the name, it's unedited.
2. It is my understanding that any time you break a digital signal and turn it into a modulated signal that quality is lost. I, however, started with XM via a modulator and really couldn't tell a distinct difference. If I were you, I'd go ahead and get a XM ready head unit.
3. I didn't install a Commander but rather the full XM set up including head unit. Plus, mine was in a 2001 SCREW... with that in mind, I'd rate MY install at around a 5.
4. My brain box is mounted behind the passenger side kick panel. I was able to obtain power there as well as have a nice secure, totally out of the way location. For the new body style, I'm not sure how that'd work.
GOOD LUCK! You'll love XM!!
