Time limit on recalls??

I've just recently started using my '93 F150 Lightning as a daily-driver, and plan to play catch-up on all my recalls. I recently received the one concerning cruise control and related fires. I had also heard that there was also a recall dealing with the fuel tanks assemblies which causes fuel to transfer fuel from one tank to another, causing gas overflow if the tank exceeded capacity. When I asked my local dealer, they informed me that they could perform the cruise control recall, but informed me that the one dealing with the gas tanks had expired. Does that sound right? Aren't recalls mostly done due to safety issues? Just seems weird that a safety recall on a product would expire. Your thoughts?? Should I contact another dealer, or is this standard procedure? I'm a little concerned, as my truck is experiencing the gas tank assembly problem.

Perhaps you are confusing safety recalls with an ONP (Owner Notification Program).

Safety recalls do not expire.

ONPs are programs that provide extended warranty coverage for specific vehicles for a specific period of time or a specific mileage, then they expire.

You will have to view the OASIS report to see what is open as far as recalls as they are VIN-specific.

Open recall on used truck

Wow, the truck I just got hasn't one of the 2009 recalls done yet.

My advice is to call a dealer and have them run your VIN if you buy used...I found it out when I was getting an OASIS report run. They ran the OASIS report for me over the phone and it only took 2 minutes for the entire call.

Worth the check.

I had an '89 F150 in the nineties I bought used and found out there was a recall so took it to the dealer. Turned out there were three recalls that hadn't ever been done so I know those didn't expire.
