Post Transfer Case Fluid Change

I changed my transfer case fluid today. When I was draining it I was surprised at the gray color of the fluid that came out. It almost looked like gear oil. It had the consistency of tranny fluid though. The manual calls for Mercron ATF. Anyone had a similar exeperience? I was wondering if maybe they put something other than Mercron in it from the factory. If it was Mecron, there is something wrong inside my transfer case because I have never seen ATF look so bad.

Cool

I use to own a 88 f150 4x4 that had some tranny problemss when they fixed it they apparently filled it with atf. but that was apparently not the correct fluid to use because within a month I had to take it back for a new tranny. I have gotten a lot of run around from dealers as to what type of fluid should be used. so far nobody I have talk to can seem to answer my questions. I am going through this right now with my 91 f150 4x4
