PLEASE READ!!! This recall doesn't go far enough!!!

I am trying to compile info on ANY model year F150 which has this problem. I intend to forward my findings to NHTSA & Ford in order to have all affected years covered.
My cruise stopped working about 6 weeks ago & I am very worried that my truck could burn to the ground.
PLEASE - email me ANY reports of fires you know of, even if it wasn't your own truck that burnt up. This is a serious safety issue & we need to call NHTSA's attention to it.
Thanks in advance.

Just because your cruise doesn't work doesn't necessarily mean that your truck will go up in smoke, FWIW. If you're really worried, do the recall yourself; disconnect the deactivator switch connector, roll it up in electrical tape, and stand by for any further updates from Uncle Henry. It's a relatively big campaign involving a lot of vehicles, and there may be more that'll fall under it further on down the road.

While you certainly have reason to be concerned, I don't think panic is a necessity. Urgency yes, panic, probably not.

According to the NHTSB, around 63 cases of this have occured. While I sincerely agree with you that 63 is 63 too many, that is around 0.00008 percent of the vehicles being recalled (around 750K).

Like Quintin mentioned, if you have pushed the panic button, maybe you should check with your dealership to ensure that the problem does not become yours or, secondly, disconnect the switch.

Best of luck CL... it's been a while since we've seen you around.

CL,

Where you been???? Anyways, does the horn work? If not it could be the clockspring in the steerning column. If it does then I would suspect the Speed control servo in the engine compartment. Do the brake lights work?

Cruise questions

So guys if your brake lights and horn work then you don't have to worry about the cruise burning. I ask because I bought a '97 Lariat and from purchase a year ago my cruise never worked but now I'm wondering if I want to get it working any at all...

Not necessarily. Cruise inop could be anything from the switch that everyone's freaking out over, to the clockspring, to the servo motor, to the wiring in between, to the cruise switches, to a fuse.

Cowlady,
Yes it's a serious safety issue and NHTSA is fully aware of it and documenting completely every case that gets reported to them.

If you've disconnected and taped up the switch on your truck, there's not much chance of it ignitiing. If you'd like to talk a bit more on this subject, please contact me and I'd be happy to share information.
