Disconnecting that connector, wrapping it in electrical tape and securing it to the cruise servo cable is all that dealers are doing until parts become available.

Interesting, I unpluged the large connector on the cruise control motor. Is this switch on the master cylinder the "off" switch for the CC they refer to and not the large connector on the unit itself?

Is there an after market (Napa) switch available?

The last couple of times we ran the '01 Lightning (60K miles), my husband could smell a burning smell after he shut it off. I poked around under the hood, and the smell was the strongest by the master cylinder.

Today he drove it again, and again smelled the burning smell. He made the comment to me that he was afraid it was going to burn down to the ground. This triggered my memory, about a recall.

Thus I found this thread. We just disconnected the connector, just in case.

I guess we need to check with the local Ford store to see if our truck is involved in the recall. If not, we are stuck buying the part ourselves.

This truck hasn't had one real problem in 60K miles. Thus, we are unwilling to take a chance on it. We do love this thing.

Thanks for the info.
