Normally I check the recall and see if its worth going in....like a handle on a panel or a loose suspension I can fix myself.

Normally I would ignore the Cruise Control since I do not use it, but if it could burn my house down while parked in my garage, then wow...

I'm too lucky! My cruise on my 01 Screw just went out the other day. I guess I'll be getting it fixed fo' free!

Ummm, GrizfromKY,

You might want to disconnect the cruise control switch (or have it disconnected at a dealer) ASAP. The way I read some of the reports on this recall, the first sign of trouble is a malfunctioning cruise control. The next sign of trouble is smoke, flames, sirens, flashing lights, etc.

Exclamation

Tonight's report on ABC World News claims the fires happened while the trucks were parked, with the engine off. The scarier part is that the cruise control does not need to be used, EVER!

Anyway, I noticed there was a prominent link on the Home Page for more information.

The key: DISCONNECT THE CRUISE !!!

I guess I lucked out.

My 2001 was made 6/2001, so it isn't part of the recall

I thought the recall was for all truck produced prior to August 2001. However, I entered my VIN into Ford's recall thingy and it said there was no recall on my truck. Any ideas?

Call Ford Customer Care. Have your VIN ready to go... they can run it on an indivdual basis to see which recall campaigns that may apply. Also, your stealership can do this for you...

Rats, I was hoping there was an on-line decoder for such things. I HATE sitting on the phone with Ford

Hey rbraughn
From what I read recall will effect 01 screws that were built "through" 8/01. I think that means up to 8/01, so you may be effected.

If you go to the safety and maintenence forum the thread that starts with f150 recall has a vin recall link

Thanks for that!

Ok,now I'm really confused. I just went out and looked on the b-pillar sticker and it says "08/2000" in the top left-hand corner. I was going to assume that was my build month/year, but when I put my vin into the Ford site they say I'm not affected.

I don't know whether to feel lucky or overlooked

EDIT: I just got the build date for my truck and it is Sept 18th, 2000. I read elsewhere that this recall covers all 2001 SCrews built before Sept 7th, 2000. Talk about a narrow miss. I hope there were no extra bad parts sitting around for 11 days that they found and used up real quick.
