2002 C5 Corvette vs 2002 Lightning

We decide to go up to our local drag strip for some fun. I decided to take the Lightning that day.

This racing event is called street challenge and you basically either line up and run what ever happens to get next to you or you make a Challenge to another person running. The Staging tree is replaced with street lights and you get no slip and your ET and Traps are not displayed.

Well anyway, my Cousin gets challenged by a guy in a 2002 C5 corvette (my cousin also has a C5). The guy tells him that he would like to race since everything else here is rice and not very fast. My cousin says sure and they line em up. My cousin messed up on his launch and also missed 3rd and ended up losing by 4 cars or so.

I see this and when my cousin pulls up next to me the guy comes by and sees my Lightning. He asks me if I am running tonight and I tell him yes. He then asks me to run saying that even though its a truck its most likely faster then 1/2 the cars there. LOL I guess he doesn’t know what a Lightning is.

Right before we line up the guy was starting to trash talk saying that he is sorry in advance that he had to beat us both so bad. I bit my tongue since I didn’t know how fast he was.

We line up, both launch well and by the end of 1st gear I have 1 car on him and its a steady pull from there on. By the end of the 1/4 mile I had him by 5 or 6 cars. We pull around and the look on his face was priceless! I get out of the truck and all he can say is. "Crazy truck" and gives me thumbs up. We chatted a bit and he asked me some questions about my truck. Turns out to be a nice guy, nice car also. All he had was, Air filter and exhaust.

Its always fun to run someone that has no idea what a Lightning is.

I was riveted to my seat by your story. I love hearing about "so called" sports cars getting owned by "just a truck". Excellent
