does the new VIN decoder work for you?
does the new VIN decoder work for you?
I plugged the VIN number that I received from my dealership a few days ago into the new VIN decoder posted in this Forum and the info it produced was for a totally different truck than what I ordered.
So I told my dealership and they panicked and looked into the issue right away for me. They got back to me this morning and said that they received confirmation from Ford that the VIN that was sent to them is for the truck I ordered. In fact, they sent me a copy of the DORA (Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgment) Form and everything checked out.
So, because I live in Canada, I started to think that maybe there is a difference in using a US-based VIN decoder vrs. using a Canadian-based VIN decoder. So, I searched the internet for a Ford Canada website with a VIN decoder and couldn't find one.
I did come across another US VIN decoder at a website for Ford Ranger, Bronco II, Explorer and Mazda B-Series vehicles, and used it. What I got was a detailed breakdown of the exact features for my truck, as I ordered it.
So, is it possible that the new VIN decoder listed in this Forum isn't the right one? Has anybody else entered their VIN to see if it checks out? Or, is there special VIN decoders for trucks, cars, etc.? It isn't like I entered the numbers wrong because I checked about 10 times and it kept giving me the same (incorrect) information. The VIN decoder I used can be found at (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...VIN_Codes.html).
Anyway, let me know if your VIN works in the decoder I found and if it also works in the new decoder from the Forum.
All the best!

I thought the same thing when I first entered the VIN for my '08, but after playing with the drop-down menus, I navigated to my exact truck. It began showing me a 133" wheelbase SuperCab, but after changing it to a 145" wheelbase truck, all the info was spot-on.
I guess if you play around with the drop down menus in the new decoder you can find out the technical specs for your truck (like the instructions say in the new decoder thread from member Rockpick).
But the decoder I found today breaks down the VIN, digit by digit to let you know what each digit represents. Basically these two decoders serve two different purposes and depending on what information you are after you can pick which one suits you best.
The one thing that doesn't help us Canadians with the new decoder listed in this Forum is that it gives US pricing - which we can only dream of paying. For instance: the MSRP for a 2012 F150 FX4 SCREW with a 6.5' box is $40,785.00 in the US and it is $46,299.00 in Canada. That means we are paying $5,514.00 more for the exact same truck. Right now the Canadian dollar is pretty high and is worth $0.99 US dollars. So, if we were to pay the same price for our trucks that Americans pay and adjust the price based on the value of the Canadian dollar, we should be paying $41,192.85 and not $46,299.00 for the exact same truck (a difference of $5,106.15). Worse than that is after you add on all of the options and then compare the total MSRP to what Americans pay, I am paying about $7,000.00 to $8,000.00 more for exactly the same truck.
Anyway, back to the decoder issue - I guess the new decoder listed by Rockpick isn't defective, it just gives differennt information.
