Relatively important to you... or to the site's operations?

Sorry it took so long to reply, I was out of town.

Somebody changed my password. So I guess it's both.

I got worried because somebody stole "Zaairman's" password and hacked his ebay account with it. I want to know who took mine. Not that it matters for this forum, but it could make a difference elsewhere....

The only soul who has access to that information is Steve. None of the mods (or members for that case, naturally) have access to the password database.

That's why I sent him a PM asking him what happened. I know he can figure it out if he wants to.

Exclamation

Password Database... Hopefully, that database is encrypted, and no one has "access" to ANY decrypted info.... It makes that person liable.

Realisitcally how much private info would you lose even if the account here was "hacked". I know the password I use for forums aren't close to the ones that protect my important data.

Lol...

Well, as a network administrator myself.... I am aware of the danger, and safeguard myself accordingly.

HOWEVER, its wrong to assume that users of the forum understand the risk, as most people assume a password is private info, particularly when they generate it themselves.

That doesn't make sense.

Number one, if your password got changed, how do you log on and post?

Number two, if they changed it to another password that you knew, how did they know to change it to something you knew since the there is only one password they know. How could they know both the old one and new one, I mean how could YOU know both the old one and new one?

Number three, I tried to look at this from your point of view but, it made my eyes twirl in opposite directions.

We cannot see passwords because they are encrypted in the database. Only myself and our moderators (I think they do, I may be wrong!) have an interface to change passwords (i.e. type in a new one to replace the old one) and I seriously doubt that Doug, Brad or Brooks would ever do this, even if a user requested it.

All I can suggest is he looks to see who has access at his house, or passwords he may have scribbled.

If you access the site at say, a public library and you happen to click on the 'Remember Me' box,...guess what....

That still wouldn't explain how he knows his new password.

Unless I'm grossly mistaken -- we don't have any access to change the p-word... because, if I did, I would've already changed chester's three or four times just to really screw with him.
