Does anyone see that Green Arrow right here?

Experimenting with a new ad placement. It will appear after the fifth thread in the forum thread list. May or may not be permanent, may or may not show for people that are logged in, but it will be a one month trial.
This additional ad placement will be on a page in an area that did not already have. We still will have no more than three ad placements on any given page. Given that we have removed the advertisement from the window that opens up from external links, there really has been no increase in the number of ads at all.
RJS, you are welcome to patronize a site that is advertising free if that is your preference. We have opted to not have paid memberships that eliminate the ads so we must generate our revenue from advertisements and sponsorships.
As far as ad blockers go, anyone that visits a free resource like F150online.com, that remains free because of advertiser support, blocking that source of revenue is downright offensive. I know of some sites like this one that completely block all visitors that use ad blockers. I won't go to that extreme, but I can certainly understand the hard stance.

Steve,
what about offering members a chance to pay or donate a certain fee to help maintain the site.
you could give them free bonus things on the site, for example they could choose their own title instead of Senior member, member etc. I'm sure there are other little privileges you could give them.
i block all ads and don't like buying from ads but i would be more than willing to contribute to the site. after all i do spend alot of time here.

Yea a supporting member...maybe with the additional features like colored text, etc. enabled....I'd certainly consider it. I know how expensive it can be and since I spend most of my time sucking up worthless bandwidth in the GD forum I wouldnt mind giving back. I must have over 3000 posts in GD

I frequent a gun forum, there are banners from sponsors across the top and a sponsors section with little business type card adds. They have a membership deal of 20.00 the first year, (I think) and 10.00 after that to renew.
Site is a lot faster than this one, granted probably not as many people, but uses the same Vbulletin layout.
I think the thing I dislike about this place the most, is that sometimes it takes forever to read a thread, that damn banner or what ever across the top is instantaniuos and it stays there doing whatever and a few minutes later the thread appears. I waited yesterday for about 8 minutes and then said f it and went somewhere else.
It is not all the time, and granted some of it is brought on by living in the sticks and using dial-up.
I would be willing to cough up a 20 spot the first year and a 10 after that. I come here enough to read and interact with people that it would be well worth it to me.
How about a poll somewhere, maybe a sticky atop all the sections, asking people if they would be inclined to anti up to keep this place going, and cut down on the adds surrounding everything.
I don't pay attention to who does all the work around here, but whomever it is thank you.

I find the ads for ripoff crap products like the Turbonator offensive. The fact that you promote the sale of crap ripoff products to your membership is why I use the ad blocker and will never buy anything from any of the Google ads here. Time and again you have proven that you would rather accept the money from ads promoting junk than trying to offer worthwhile products to your members. I'm sure the new ads are selling more of the same crap and I feel bad for anyone gullible or stupid enough to patronize your advertisers.

A. Running a free forum is expensive
B. Most of the ads are targeted based on thread topic and in some cases have led me to a product I was looking for
C. I dont find them that intrusive.
D. I certainly not gullible or stupid...and I've clicked ads just to increase the clicks in some cases.
I've known some great sites that went down because of the costs....if ad revenue keeps this site up....than so be it. I use to frequent a conservative news site (WND) and the advertising there is unbearable.
I still like the supporting member suggestion....

Google ads are auto-generated... not advertisers with f150online.com. If a person is to click on such a link, it can (and not always as I understand it) can help generate funds that are essential to keeping this site running. Bandwidth, servers, and software aren't free you know... There's so much more to this than what you're apparently giving credit for here... Until you understand the workings, offer your opinion but, as a suggestion, you may consider taking on a different tone because yours, at this point in time, is totally unacceptable.
Criticism is one thing.... being down right offensive, abrasive, idiotic and bull headed is another.

i can deal with the ads, no biggie, and like vader said, some actually lead somewhere useful-
but, can they at least open a new window if i do so click one, so i can continue reading posts, and go off on a tangent at the same time? (elsewise, i have to click the back arrow, or open a new window and go back to my favorite link
)
keep it up-
Justin

I guess I need to get a life. I not only click on the ads; I have actually purchased from a vendor. So the ads are no problem for me.
But in all fairness, I can understand the frustration when the site is loaded down and your trying to load a page with dial up. Especially when someone has a very large picture in their post.
I tried to help my sister with her computer, and stopped in frustration. It had been so long since I used dial up, that I didn't have the patients anymore. Takes forever to download updates, drivers, and the like.
And for the record, I would pay for a few extra perks.
