Question Is this a scammer, or what?

I had posted a wanted ad in the classified forum of this site, looking for a mirror. I received an e-mail from someone with poor English wanting to buy my mirror and asked me to send him my mailing address so he could send money. I explained I didn"t have a mirror for sale, and only was searching for one. He asked what I did have for sale because he had money to spend. I told him of a damaged 01 Ranger truck I have at $3900. He e-mailed back that he would give me $3700 and again asked for my mailing address. I asked him where he was located. ND, I am assuming North Dakota. I am in PEIsland, eastern Canada, 3000 miles or more away!!!! He has never asked where I am located and says an agent will pick the truck up. He has again asked for my mailing address. He has never asked for any bank info.
This is strange as nobody travels that far to buy a damaged 01 Ranger!
How could I be scammed if he only wants my address?

He will send you a check for double or more of the amount of sale and then want you to send him the rest back by money order. The check will bounce. He will never come for the merchandise. If he is legite, have him send a money order or bank draft for the exact amount. You might try contacting your local Law enforcement and check with them about possible victims in your area.

So, I e-mailed him back and gave him a free geography lesson, laid down the rules and said if that suited him, then he could send the money. Maybe it is an 11 year old kid, who knows? We will see what happens.

Don't mess with this joker and don't cash or deposit any checks, cashier's checks or money orders he sends you, they will be counterfeit. I work in fraud investigation and this is a classic scam from the sounds of it.

I had like same guy email me. He said he wanted buy my 1994 truck without pictures and all because of new transmission. I told him to send me the money order and I would get back to him when it clears my bank. We talked for about a week and he said he was send it. Nothing. So watch out. If anything, make sure to cash it and them email him. My guy was in IL and I am from NJ. His email address was yomath_lat@movemail.com. So just watch yourself. People are all around out here. I just want sell this truck and not deal with bs.

Question That's the dude!

Same e-mail, same dude. I laid down the rules and finally gave him my address and phone number that he wanted so badly.
[I was thinking after.... he already had my address and phone in the F-150 ad he originally read.]
Then he disappeared!!! So, WHY??? Scared off by my rules? Is he selling our addresses?

Dale... This is a scam. It'd be better to not even respond to such propositions.

Wow. No wonder so many scammers are so successful. I had no idea so many people could be tricked by such a basic, obvious scam. I feel sorry for you if a smart scammer targets you.

My hunch is because it was a spider-generated email. In short, a bug navigated our site, found the 'for sale' ad with an email inside of the text body, and sent the form letter directly to that email address...

In short, I doubt it was a human...

I'm sure they have no shortage of 'suckers' (for lack of a better term) coming to them and thus, I'd say they pick and choose who they go after.

Just a hunch but, either way, it'd defiintely be better to run, not walk, the other way from any sort of offer.... well, unless it's me offering you a very large plot of swamp land in central Florida for an AMAZINGLY low price... Naturally, I'll need you to forward a check for 150% of the cost and I'll return the other 50% once we close the deal.

OK That explains it a bit more..... He didn't sound human, or if he was then he was not up on his geography or the English language.
I'll not waste my time again. THANKS

Talking

I got this recently, I knew right off it was a scam. Came from craigslist, where I am selling my Snuglid. No one, and I mean NO ONE in South Texas spells Check, as cheque, lol. You'd get your butt kicked, as well get called not so nice names, haha.

Hello Seller,
I am interested in the immediate purchase of your item. After several consideration over the advert placed on the website,i have really shown interest in it and would really want to issue the payment in form of money order. Will you be accepting a money order? The money order that will be drawn by my Agent would include the cost for shipping this item to my agent while am away on business trip same cheque will also include the money to buy other more items from other sellers .We shall solely be responsible for the shippment of the item. Please contact me asap via email for futher questions as regards to this transaction and if you really show willingness in selling this item asap.Thank You and I am expecting your response asap.

Best Regards.

I responded with this. I never got a response? I wonder why??

Tell me what the "ITEM" is, and I'll sell it to you. You spelled check wrong, so I can only guess you're some type of ignorant scamming dip**** in Africa, or the Phillipines, or some former British territory. Have some more originality if you're trying to scam people. Are you sure you're not the agent for some prince that was killed in a car crash? You're stupid.....
