Question Links

Steve,

Just wondering why you chose to stop opening forum submitted links in a new window? This is not the typical vb behavior, so I'm finding myself closing the window instead of using the back button.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but it would be great if a new window were to open up when a link is clicked.

I have no problem with the google ads. It seems like a great way to get a few more exposures/clicks, I may have to do the same!

I just wish the links opened a new window automagically. target="_blank" is our friend

It's a fine line to have to walk.

Open in a new window AND include ads.

Open in the same window AND include ads.

I found the latter to be less instrusive.

I have been meaning to ask about this as well.

I dont mind the ads, I understand you need to make funds to pay for the site.

But I just wish they could open in a new window...I find myself closing the links rather than going back quite often, so I have to re-open f150online, find the thread I was in, figure out what I wanted to post, maybe open the link again, its rather frustrating for me...

I think the webmaster here is the only one who prefers the links opening in the same window, but it's his site and we are guests. Yes, it's a pain in the a**. Sort of like the new F150's that are perfect in almost every way except for that annoying vibe that prevents you from driving the truck between 55-70 MPH. Hopefully one day Steve will come around and apply the TSB to fix the issue, but until then we are stuck unless we file for a buyback under the lemon law.

Bottom line is I can't win. If I open a new window that includes ads people will complain, too. There is no way to satisfy everyone, so I have up trying long ago.

Maybe we could have a poll? That way you would hopefully have fewer people making complaints?

Ads are a separate issue. Find one person who would complain about links opening in a separate window? I know of no one. I have seen this issue occurring on other forums and the overwhelming majority prefer links to open in a new window. How many forums do you frequent and how many force links to open in the same window? This site is the exception, not the norm.

This is the only forum I frequent that shoves ads into my face whenever I click a link, but you are decent enough to give me a way to eliminate them at least. That still has nothing to do with the issue brought up in this thread.

The first few times I ended up closing the window until I learned how to use the “back” button. So it’s really not a problem and I no longer close the window.

There is also an option to remove the frame in the window that opens so you see the whole page. To get back to F150online simply requires two clicks of the back button…

It took a while to get used to the links opening in the same window. I've gotten to where I don't left click on them anymore, I right click and click "Open in New Window". That way I can close it like I'm used to doing and don't lose the thread. Simple.

Steve, I think you do an excellent job, can't be easy keeping everything going smoothly and trying to make most of the people happy most of the time. My hats off to you!!

Thank you for fixing the link behavior so clicked links open in a separate window now. It is much easier this way.
