I've been getting alot of spyware and adware on my computer, just curious if I'm getting it on this sight? I've ran webroot, lavasoft, and mcafee almost everyday, still getting it! Wasn't sure if you guys have protection for us on this sight?
P.S. This has been pretty much the only place I've frequented for about a week other than quicken and groupwise. ( Yeah, there haven't been any Porno sights!LOL )

Thanks,
Bryan

I don't know about you OR EVERYONE ELSE
but @ 6 months ago when this site was messing up and
double and triple posting, etc.... it hasn't been the same since.
I still get slow loading pages, sometimes I have to hit refresh to respond to a post, open a post, turn a page etc....
I think there's still a bug in the Forum / System
OR SOMETHING
BTW, my connect speed is fine (Your Speed is: 9272.7 Kbps)
and I don't have the prob in any other site or Forum

As for spyware, I use many diff programs and rid my computer of them daily, but I recently used a trial one (now expired)
that was picking up something everytime I opened F-150 in my
browser (it was just picking up the ad's I think)

There is no spyware coming from this site.

Cookies are NOT spyware. Cookies are used to remember you when you come back and to tell which threads you have viewed. They are also used/placed by some of the outside advertisers to track purchases and click thrus...

If you HAD spyware or adware on your PC it tends to grow from itself. Like a weed.

There are LOTS of sites ( many auto enthusiast sites ) that profit from the forced download of spyware and adware on peoples PCs. But Im certain that Steve is NOT installing any apps on any viewers PC's

The site is sometimes slow from all the SQL queries...

I keep telling Steve we should just ban a few thousand members and the server response would fix itself... He wont listen though...

Doug, you would'n't throw the old man out
WOULD YOU

And come on Pal give me some credit, I know what a cookie is
(haven't you seen how fat I am) hehehehehe...

It was the "Double Click" that Spyware Buster picked out,
that I thought SOME may see as spyware.

As I said,

I see my pc request items from doubleclick.net all the time while loading pages here. Not uncommon, but doubleclick isn't exactly an Internet Angel. While Steve-O may not be pushing anything down that doesn't mean doubleclick isn't doing something less-than-ethical (big shocker).

Personally I add a route(s) for double click to my hosts file. For the CPU-challenged, a hosts file is the first thing your windows-based PC checks for name resolution. It is normally located on NT/2000/XP machines in %SYSTEM_ROOT%/system32/drivers/etc. Open the file in a text editor (notepad) and add the following entries:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 ads.mcafee.com
127.0.0.1 247.vo.llnw.net
127.0.0.1 doubleclick.net

I can assure you with 100% confidence that there is absolutely no "spyware" eminating from our servers. That is not to say, however, that spyware installed on your PC is not being activated when you visit this site. We have absolutely no control over the latter.

As for Doubleclick, they are the largest ad delivery company in the world. They serve the FoMoCo banners we run on the site, as well as 80% or more of the legitimate ad banners today.

As for cookies, don't get me started on the misinformation surrounding them...

A lot of people used to malign Doubleclick because they simply did not understand their business model. Not only are they not doing anything unethical with information in their tracking cookies, I think what they do actually improves web surfing in many cases.

Privacy advocates have always liked to single out Doubleclick because they "track" what sites you visit (by placing a cookie from a served ad) and potentially customize future ads you see on other sites. Here's how. You visit this site and they place that information in a cookie that can only be read by Doubleclick. Doubleclick serves ads on Edmunds.com or Yahoo and they know you visit a Ford site. They serve you a related ad on other sites. Is that really evil?

Ask yourself what "private" information does Doubleclick have about you from your viewing of a banner? Name? No. Address? No. Email Address? No. Phone Number? No. Age? No. Gender? No. Marital Status? No. Geographic location? Possibly, based on your IP address. The latter, IMO, can once again only improve the surfing experience with more targeted ads.

That's my $.02. Of course, I might be biased because I operate a site dependent on ad revenue.

Most of the doubleclick bashing stems from their ealier practices and technologies. Not only that, but alot of people freaked when they aquired Abacus Direct. That was kinda scary. Google is gonna get in trouble with thier g-mail product as well if they don't wise up.

I had to dig, but this article sums it up pretty well. http://news.com.com/2100-1023-803593.html?legacy=cnet

I still have a hard time trusting doubleclick. Plus, some of their ads have been hijacked and various naughty things injected into legit web pages. D'oh! But that's the Infosec in my talkin.
