Question Is it just my PC or.............

Has anyone else had the F150 OL screen become "scratchy" with horizontal lines and overlapped messages? Refreshing does not help. Log off and back on is the only cure. I am on a DSL and this is the only site where I experience the problem. This has been happening for about two weeks.

Are you running Internet Explorer or Netscape? I also have DSL, and never had your exact problem, but I found this site runs better on Explorer.

Sounds like it may be a Java problem. A usual quick fix is to delete your temporary internet settings and blow out the offending java applet. That way you'lg get a fresh set of files when you revist the site. If you're using Netscape, goto Edit -Preferences - expand "Advanced" and select Cache. Chose both buttons to clear the memory. IE, it's under Internet Options, then temp internet files and you can delete them there I beleive. I hate IE and never use it myself. Not that I have an opinion on it or anything

Dang. Just happened again when I went to reply. Screen looked like I was looking through venetian blinds with scratches.

I am using MS Internet Explorer and I delete Temporary and History files each time I close out of Explorer.

Again, only happens on this site. Any other ideas?

Question

What version? I use 5.01 (the latest) with no problems what so ever. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.htm to update it if necessary. You can see what version you are using by going to Help --> About Internet Explorer on the IE menu bar.

Dewayne,

From what I recall, that is an IE5.0 thing, not a website specific thing...as someone suggested, download the latest rev (thankfully you have DSL, don't software vendors know what patches are anymore??) and it should take care of the problem...

Dewayne:
I think I might know what you are talking about. I have had something that sounds the same happen to me, at this site & others. Do the lines stay inside your web browser or do they go across the whole screen?

Mine goes across the whole screen when I scroll to a certain piont in a page. If I scroll up or down to move the lines off the screen they go away. But if I scroll back down they reappear at the same point.

It's bizzare. I would normally say it is a video driver issue, since it goes across the whole screen, but I have had it happen on my machine at work and at home (different video cards) and since IE & the windows explorer are so tightly integrated (under win98) it could be a IE issue. I have IE 5 on both machines.

Unhappy

Well, here it is 15 minutes later and it just happened again. Maybe it is the "work gods" wrath for using the company time and equipment while at work! I have to log off and back on IE to clear the mess up. This only started a few weeks ago and it is driving me crazy. Guess I'll do a reboot to see if it will kick in the IE 5.01.

Question

Did you actually install IE or just download the ie5setup.exe file? You have to run that file after you download it. . . If you already have, I apologize.

Talking

dlb, et al,

You're right, I downloaded it to "C:" drive but did not run it until a half hour ago. All appears to be working right now. Now my concern is will I get caught buy my corporate IT police. All of our companies PC's are suppose to be built exactly the same and nothing loaded except what they have installed. Not even screen saver. Oops, I forgot I have the Super Crew picture on the screen saver. Oh well.

One question. With IE 5.01 I now have an icon for Outlook Express while our company uses MS Outlook. Should I delete the new icon?

No more problems. Thanks to all of you for the help. dlb - no need to apologize because some of us aren't as smart as you IT guys. Most of the ones here at work are real jerks when you ask them a question. They look at you and talk down like we are a bunch of retards. They expect everyone to be on their level. Well, some of us have other jobs to do rather than cramming IT stuff into our heads for a living. I can't wait until one of these guys has car trouble in the parking lot so I can give them a dose of their medicine. Thanks for all the "friendly" help.

My IE 5.01 was giving me fits until I downloaded IE 5.5 today. 5.5 is supposed to be 5.01 with bug fixes and all the service packs included. Have a link if anyone needs it http://ivir2.da.ru/

Wink

I have IE 5.0 and have no problems.
If I get some eratic visual behaviour, it is usually because the rescources (available RAM) are low. I just "end-task" some stuff and if that doesn't work, rebooting clears the ram.

This happens when I vist a lot of 'Java' enhanced sites, some people over do it. In fact I removed my Java drop down Nav bars and put up banners at the top and bottom of my pages instead to keep the Java to a minimum.

*To 'endtask' an item, hit 'ctrl'+'alt'+'del', when a window pops up, pick a program you're not using and hit "end-task"
