A few notes about this message board as I am new here:

1.) Where are the links to the major tuners? I could not find any info and the search function did not help at all (see below). If I was a major tuner for Lightnings I would want my link plastered over everything.

2.) 4 character minimum search length sucks..... badly.

i.e. I tried to find info/links on JLP, JDM, ect.. but can't search on those terms as they are too short. I think a search mininum of two would be more appropriate.

3.) Maybe a general page for basic modifications would cut down on alot of redundant posts about the simalar topics. The search function is almost non-usefull as most of the post are repeated.

Do a search on "grill mod" and you will see what I mean.


I think that implementing these things would definatly help this board in general as well as newbies like myself.

 

There is a supporting vendor page but good luck finding it.

 

I did try to find it.... without sucess. Which is why I posted my rant. Lots of information here, just actually finding it is the hard part.

 

You can do a search with only 3 letters, just make the forth a *.

 

I just found a post from johnnylightning, and clicked the "supporting vendor" under his name. That took me to the vendor page.

 

If you look to the left under my screename, you'll see a link to the SV page. I have never seen any other link to get there, and yes I agree it would be nice if there was something more obvious.

 

Go to :

www.nloc.net

skip the intro and goto gen 2 forum, at the bottom of the screen there is a jump to, use that to go to the supporting vendors page.

and as stated when searching on this forum you can use * as a wildcard if your search has too few letters

Like the other parts of your rant they have been asked and answered MANY times in THIS forum. ( thread moved to questions about the site )

The search engine restriction is due to the MASSIVE search database we already have - at 3 characters it would be 3 or 4 x bigger. The * trick really doesnt work.

The Gen 2 FAQ is available here. http://www.svtlightnings.com/faq1/faq.htm - it is a great collection of info from the members here about 2 years ago.

Unfortunately no one here has shown any interest in helping to update it or maintain it. Since then.

I have spent about 20 hours on it in that time but it still needs signifcant updates. Lots of things have changed. Kenne Bell blowers etc... If you or anyone else has any contributions/updates for the FAQ let me know.

Funny, I just searched on "Lightning AND tuner AND list" all terms that are more than three characters and found a thread on the first page that contained names and links to more than a dozen Lightning tuners. Took me about 30 seconds to find it.

If you want a site that has commercial links "plastered all over everything" you have come to the wrong place. We have one unobtrusive banner ad per page and one unobstrusive Google ad tower per page.

The Supporting Vendors are linked from:

1) The site's front page, Helpful Resources section
2) The "title" of every Supporting Vendor on the forums
3) On every page where you add a new thread, so you know how to contact them.
4) In a few hundred posts on the forums if you search on "Supporting Vendors" or similar

As noted by one person here, many Lightning owners never venture outside of the Lightning forum, so even if there were a link to our Supporting Vendors in 24 point blinking type on the front page of the site, they would never know it.

It's been discussed here many times and if you visited the Questions About The Site forum you can learn why search is limited to four characters or more. Almost every forum running this software that has this many posts has been forced to impose the same limitation.

F150online is not just about Lightnings, nor is it just about go-fast modifications. Try venturing out of the Lightning forum to review the other 50 or so areas of discussion. If you want a site dedicated 100% to Lightnings, try NLOC.

 

Thanks for all the help guys (and the welcome). I meant my rant to be helpful. I am sorry if I got anyones panty's in a bunch. I am a member of several php boards (a few larger than this one)and am familar with there operation which is why I made the previous suggestions.

I actually found the 2 gen FAQ once, but was never able to find it again (I have been lurking since I bought my L).

As for the manufactor's page... I'll bite my tongue.

 

I know this is TOTALLY OT but, SVTLightning02... that Sting Ray is just about the nicest thing I've EVER seen posted on the f150online.com message board. AWESOME CAR MAN!
