Why?

Anyone have any idea why Ford will put together a quality product, but install rusty parts on the truck. Took delivery of a 2001 HD SCrew, and found that the brake discs, steering box, ti e rod ends, steering knuckles, leaf springs, and universal joint yokes all were rusty. I was able to scrape rust flakes off the steering box.

A contact at the Norfolk Ford plant sez the parts come into the plant with rust on them.

There's gotta be a better way........

Rust = no paint
brake discs will rust on any car or truck if they aren't driven for a few days.
What does the Dealer have to say about all the rusty parts?

ALL of the new F150s at the lot show surface rust. I understand the rust on the disc surface...that shows up after a car wash.

I just fixed it myself......used a quart of OSPHO rust converter, and several cans of Rustoleum HiTemp. Now, looking through the Harley wheels you see a nice black wheel disc, not the rust. Rest of the parts underbody were touched up same way. Normally I'm not that choosy, but this is the first new 4 wheel vehicle (cage) I've purchased in 25 years. I expect it to be right the first time.

Elsewise, it's a beautiful machine.....
