I am talking about the button on the shifter. The shop tells me this is a likely place to look because the tranny was just rebuilt?

 

I have never actually replaced the button, but I have fixed the wires going to it. They have a bad habit of rubbing through the insulation and shorting against a little metal clamp that is supposed to hold them in place. You might take your steering column cover off and make sure that is not your problem. Keep us posted.
