Interesting site for converting to Solid front axle

Just stumbled on this. This guy is from Maine and yes, I e-mailed him
He has a F250 (diesel maybe). After reading what he has to say I realised he does what we do...lay under the truck and thinks And sometimes climbs into the engine compartment and contemplates.

I just thought this info might be nice to know for some people.
Swamp Donkey! Does a solid axle conversion. http://hometown.aol.com/jzettel73/TTB_Conversion.html and http://hometown.aol.com/jzettel73

Heres a nice "kit" from the Bronco graveyard for IFS newer fords.

I think so too. I remember reading the magazine article featureing these Fabritech trucks but couldn't remember when or where. The bronco grave yard has the article on their site.

Dvldog has converted to a solid front axle (dana60), maybe we can pursuade him to post pics His truck is a piece of art!

Hiem Joints everywhere. Where can we get hiem joints cheap? Thats what keeps the steering from binding up.

I was a little concerned about the steering linkage being over the springs but, if I imagined the axle moving up and down, the steering goes with the axle due to the nearly unlimited rotation/flex of the hiem joints. Its pretty cool.

Thanks guys!
Me and my buddy did all the work. The Off Road Unlimited reverse shackle kit was big advantage and easy to install. We took a trip down to the iron bound district and picked up some DOM pipe and made a beefy tierod and draglink.
The only problem we had was the cross member...we had to hack alittle off in order to clear the traction bar.
Other than that, the Dana 60 slide right in.I got rid of all that IFS stuff.
As far as heim joints......look on Ebay, sometimes they have good deals.I bought all my from Skyjacker.I bought the ones with the teflon seal.

The front springs...Are those from a 1 ton ford? And the front spring mount? Did you make your own front mounts? Would you recommend DOM over chromoly?
