RPM wanders in cruise

My '92 with a 5.0 has developed an unstable throttle while on the road. I have to constantly adjust the gas pedal to maintain a speed. One mech said there is a throttle sensor that can cause this. Anyone see this before? If it is the throttle sensor where is it located and how much is the part?

There is a Throttle Postion Sensor that is attached to the side of the throttle body. I think a dealer part is about $150, probably half that at autozone. All of this can be tested though. If you have a good digital multimeter with an analog ohms scale you can test the TPS. Just unplug the connector and hook up the multimeter probes to the tps then slowly open the throttle with your hand while watching the analog scale, it should increase in resistance smoothly, if it jumps around the tps is bad. A repair manual will also give you specs for the resistance when fully opened and fully closed.

Thanks,

I'll give that a shot. Since I'm unemployed at the moment I may just run it as is till I have some income.
