Need new cat(s)
Need new cat(s)
OK well if ya havn't seen my other thread I have a clogged cat or close to clogged, I'm going to call around Tuesday to get some cost on installation of some high flow cats.
All that I want done is removal of my 2 stocks cats and installation of the high flows.
How much should I expect to pay for installation and parts?
How much is too much?

the last time i checked on a cat for a customer it ran from $600.00 to $8oo.00 you can deffinetly expect to pay that for high flows like i said before i think you only have one cat on the 4.9 i would try installing a strait pie in there and drill and tap your o2 sensor in but thats me and i doubt you will find any exaust shop that will do ythat for you but good luck on whatever you decide
Chris, Ford quoted me over $1000...so I'm taking my money and running...I found some cats at Napa for around $70 and the guy said they shouldn't be to much to have a shop put them on...to make things worse I have to get it smogged in a month and a half so I'm kinda in a rush.
Yes, that's fine, but there are state and federal warranty laws about how long ANY emission control part has to last, and it's either 6 or 7 years. If it's 7, you're still under warranty. You would have to bring that to Fords attention, otherwise they'll charge you every penny they can. Check your owners manual. It tells about it in there.
Take care,

I thought any state that required california( CA, MA, ME and others I'm not sure about) emissions, the emission components, especially the cats, were 10 year warranty.
I thought, not really sure.

I had the dual cats on my 96 replaced with a Catco high flow single by a local exhaust shop. Cost was $350 installed, including labor (but not parts) to install a FM 70 cat-back. Shop around.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention Chris and Itsnik....I looked through the owners manual but couldn't find anything, I'll give the dealership a call tomorrow and see what happens...I realy don't care about putting high flow or just stock back on...I just want to be able to run my A/C!
Know any where else I could find info on this(web site?)...I'd realy like to show them this on paper.

Ok...found it in the Warranty Information Booklet...go figure
It's 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and well I'm over 80k so I'm out of luck...Nice try though, thanks

Am I right abou having 2 cats? Everyone I talk too say's it's weird for a I-6 to have 2 cats......I look under my truck and starting from the rear I see the muffler, then a few feet I see a larger cat, then a few more feet I see what I think is a smaller cat with a heat sheild. It's right where 2 pipes meet and go into this one then out into 1 pipe(y-Pipe?), It's about half the size of the regular cat.
