I'm seriously thinking of improving my trucks engine performance. I just found out that there is a company in town that works on only, Ford trucks, they have FIPK kits and chips and stuff.. I'm gonna ask around and see how good they are, what do ya think, cus i'm gonna check out prices and stuff too, I want it fast, and i've got money, not braggin, but i am makin $10 an hour.. 40 hrs a week. So what do ya all think, i'll be keepin the truck for a long time it looks like.

well as a fellow 4.9Ler who also is desperate to make a 4.9L go faster which is nearly impossible I'll write down my list of things to do.
1.FIPK(already did that)-cheaper to make your own since you have speed-density
2.Exhaust
3.MSD 6A Ignition(know tons of other 4.9lers who gained a ton of power)
4.Hurst shifter(if you have a 5spd)
5.Superchip(always make this your last performance mod)
6.Gears(This is for me...something you may wanna look into)
Thats prety much performance things you can do unless you wanna tear up the engine and put in a cam and stuff.

Wish List
1.Wheels(got them today!)
2.Cervini Induction hood
3.clear corner lenses
4.Stereo System(time for a upgrade)
5.Tach(can't here when to shift cuz of stereo)
6.Billet Grill(not in a rush for)
7.Iniglo Gauges
8.Pre-Runner Fenders
9.Pre-Runner Bumpers
10.6inch lift(already started a savings account for a fab-tech lift)
11.Door handles shaved

I strongly disagree about the MSD box. The only people who swear that an MSD box made their 4.9L faster are guys with pre-'88 trucks, or guys that are too embarassed to admit they spent that kind of money on a product that didn't do squat. I have tried both an MSD box and a Crane HI-6 box, and the factory ignition was better.

This is more than an opinion.

Take care,
~Chris

I'm not doubting you Chris but I've heard more good then bad when it came to a MSD 6A, I know someone with a prety much stock 95 4.9L and they swear they picked up a lot more HP, he just might be a lucky one, sounds like a chance of wasting $100 so it's up to the person with the dough.
Also LLoverCrazyJay I'd take the Hurst shifter off my list because I havn't talked to anyone who has gotten it yet, I just wouldn't want to be the first one to try it out because it could just help you grind gears more.

Ok, I want to get FIPK kit but they have some off breed, which i dunno... kind of iffy..(I have the dual tubes, i see u have single...)I have Exhaust, not touching ignition..Ok, hurst shifter? Um, where and how much, oh and what does it do, my clutch is a piece of **** well that or tranny, half the time i have to shove for a minute to get it into 1st or Revvis. Ok, Chip, well, yes i understand last so they can figure in all the stuff... Gear, I highly doubt it... Too much for me to do.... I'm 16, please remember, and yes, i have done all of the work on my truck. And i'm learning, and never been taught. I would love to see your new wheels and tires, i got mine a while back also, but not as nice as yours...Billet Grill, have, indiglo gauges, have. I want performance, i am thinking of getting a lift also, i have looked in summit at the Pro Comp lift(6 ") I have the money, yes, but i would want bigger and wider tires, and wider wheels, ya know...lift is 1,070 dollars, then wheels and tires, probably trade with where i got the wheels and tires for some bigger ones, and some mud tires, so that's another 300 probably.. So, crap, I want a lightning, but screw it... I'm gonna jack this f*cker up! and make it run like the Beeeoch she is.

I'll get some pics of the wheels as soon as I get the center caps.
I don't think I'm going to bother with the hurst shifter anyways, sounds like your clutch is going out...pro comp has good lfts...I helped my grandfather put one on his 3500 Dodge. As far as the gears you would have to have someone else do that for ya anyways...take a look in PKRWUD's gallery at his custom intake...or McGyver(sp?)... save you a lot of money for the same thing, I noticed a big difference after I put mine in. Try to get Ford4ever or Ford4Fun's(sorry but I forgot which one) attention..one of them has his 4.9L jacked up over 6inch
(I forgot how high)
Good Luck

P.S. take the pics in your gallery and cut out the pics in windows paint and paste them in a new one...that way they won't take up so much room.

What i have learned is that all those little mods don't do much but empty your pockets. If you do underdrive pullies, FIPK, Exhaust, Superchip, etc you gain maybe 15-20HP and you've spent almost $1000. I would save my money, have the engine torn down and rebuild with high compression pistons, ported and polisheds (machined for larger valves), roller rockers etc. For a couple thousand that will give you at least 100hp. Then you can tack on that other stuff later.

A gear swap is also a great idea, if you can't do it yourself a performance shop can put them in for about $400 + parts.

Believe what you like. If your buddy honestly thinks he gained power, than there was a problem with his factory ignition. They will not increase power, but, hey, they look neat!

Take care,

I've always believed that igniton upgrades will only help you if you are Supercharged, Turbocharged, or running high compression and nitrous, stuff like that. I have an MSD box that i picked up used dirt cheap, it did nothing for performance but it does look cool. I also left the stock ignition in place so i can switch back and forth in case one burns out in the middle of nowhere.
