pulleys are a great mod, you'll feel a nice power improvement. the fans are good too, but if i was going to do it all over again i would save the money from the fans and put it towards something else because they cost $215 and the gains were barely noticeable (at least that was the case in my truck, i dont know if anyone else has had better luck with electric fans).

I'm sorry, but I think it's so tacky when people put badging on their vehicles that really doesn't belong there. Out here in California, I've seen a number of Civics and Integras that have the "Type R" badging on them, but are clearly not actual Type R's. I have also, sadly enough, seen some pseudo L's
BTW, I am sort of guilty of that myself. As you can see in my picture (signature), I added the 4x4 decals from the 95-96 F-150's. But hey, at least my truck really is a 4x4. They didn't have any decals for the '90 trucks, and I don't really like the way the '91 4x4 decals look.

Beastie, I would also definately recommend the underdrive pulleys from March. Also, the gears will be a big help. Maybe some headers, too. I would be interested to know how the chip works out for you since I had basically neutral results with mine. I think there was something wrong either with the program or the installation of my chip as I noticed no difference. The reason why I didn't get a new one was because I couldn't place my ecm in the proper secured position since the chip stuck out too far. So I ended up with a new intake manifold. Overall, I'm happy with the manifold. Great top end power increase, though I had a very slight low end (2000-2700 rpm range) power decrease.

BTW, what kind of transmission do you have? I don't know too much about the manual trans. since I have the AOD, but I do know enough about the auto. trannies to know that when mine goes out, I'm replacing it with a C6 since they are more sturdy and cheaper to beef up. The only downside is that it doesn't have OD. But if I wanted good gas mileage, I wouldn't be driving a 1990 4x4 with a V8 now, would I?

TF if you had to rate your mods in order of how much power improvement you saw from them what would they be? Including gears. I also have the auto tranny CODE "U" and should I go with 3.73 gears or 4.10s I have 3.31s right now

Beastie,

Well, the 4.10 gears came stock, and the headers were already installed when I bought the truck so I really couldn't tell you how much of a difference they make.

I can tell you that the truck already had a K&N replacement filter when I bought it. I then installed a K&N FIPK and I noticed a nice improvement over that, but I noticed you already have a K&N FIPK. I also have the March power and amp. series, and I too, highly recommend them. I got them for like $150.

My high flow cat. conv. is nice too. It's really tough to rate them in order since some mods. work well with others and some don't.

I can't tell you exactly how much a gear swap would be, but I was quoted $2000 for new gears, front and rear, new limited slip front and rear, including labor. For just gears, you'd probably be looking at about 1 grand I would say. But, they're worth it as long as you go high enough!

I would say you can't go wrong with:
gears
pulleys
headers
Edelbrock cylinder heads (ask Dvldog458)

I would say you'd be gambling with:
ignition upgrades
computer chips
intake manifold (sacrifice low end for high end)
camshafts (messes with driveability, ecm)

I'm not saying the gambles can't end up working out great. That's why I call them gambles, not busts. These are just things I've had or heard mixed results on.

The first four are items I've had great experiences with or have heard about others with rave results.

Hope this helps a little. BTW, I live around Sacramento (I attend UC Davis).

how did the high flow cat help out, did you replace the rear cat and put a y-pipe in place of the front cat or what?

Okay I think I have made up my mind of what I want to buy:
1) March Underdrive Pulleys
2) Superchip
3) Headers
4) TransGo Shift Kit ( I wanna chirp those tires LOL)
5) Gears (Either 3.73 or 4.10s can't decide)

All I want to do is run in the 16s or high 15s should I accomplish this with these mods?

Assuming stock diameter (29") tires and an automatic, I'd say go with the 4.10s for a V-8 and 3.73s with an I-6. With the manual, I'd lower that to 3.73 for the
8 and 3.55 for the 6.

That combination is going to keep you at or just slightly above your torque peak in OD on the highway and still give you plenty of gear for playing around. You've got to realize that you weigh at least 1000 lbs. more than a Mustang, are pulling 3"-4" taller tires and have the aerodynamics of a brick. There's nothing you can do to a truck that dollar for dollar is going to make it as quick or as fast as a car with a similar drivetrain.

UC Davis!! They're filming that show on MTV there!

Hey beastie...might wanna get ahold of PKRWUD....I think he's got 4:10s in his I6 5spd on 31 in tires.
Thats the set-up I'm aiming for...just need the gears now.
