1993 E4OD SHUDDER (again)

I have a 1993 F150 4.9 with E4OD. 115K miles.
I have a very noticeable tranny shudder mostly in 3rd and OD.

About 3000 miles ago I changed the tranny filter and fluid including the converter.
The truck drove beautifully. Like it was new again. But unfortunately in the last two weeks the shudder has returned and now is as bad as ever.

Is there anything else I can do myself to correct this problem.
I am going to try another fluid and filter change and hope this time it will last longer, but I suppose that is doubtfull.

So does anyone have any advice as to what the problem is, and what it will take to correct the problem for good ??

Thanks for your time, and I appreciate any assistance.
Dennis,

this is a longshot, but make sure the tranny is causing it and its not the driveshaft or a bad u-joint. good luck!

Thanks for the reply.
I'm sure it's the tranny. I changed the fluid and filter and the shudder was completly gone for about 3000 miles, then it slowly returned.

Wynns has a product called "stop Shudder" or something like that. I'd try that or something similar, wouldn't hurt. Otherwise I don't know much about Ford Trans Gutts.

Can you turn off you OD?

Trans Shudder

When you change fluid and filter this time , put in "FRICTION MODIFIER" should be able to pick-up at any transmission shop.

I had the same problem at 154,xxx miles. I tried having the system flushed which didn't help. I ended up buying a new TC and having the tranny rebuilt. The lock-up clutches in the TC are what cause the shudder. The new TC's from Ford have upgraded clutches.

there is a technical service bulletin out from Ford that reccomend changing the fluid to Mercon 5 which is a synthetic fluid. I knew ford truck were bad about this so i had the dealer do a complete flush and filter change and have never experienced tha problem. My fried had the same problem and changed over the the Mercon 5 and his shuddering went away. It was about $200. for the dealer to do it, said it helps a lot since it is a thinner fluid.

my 2cents
