Lightbulb Need quick info on '90 Ext. cab jump seat/bench seat options

I posted a while back about the fact that I'd be looking for a '88-'92 ext-cab F-150 in the future.(https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=76791) Well, the future is here! I've found a sharp '90 XLT Lariat. At this point, the big thing that concerns me is the rear seats. I'd really, really rather have the rear bench as opposed to the sideways "jump" seats that this one has. (I'm going to be putting two car seats in the back.)

Was the bench an option for that year?('90) - Seems like I saw a '91 that had a bench. If not, can a rear bench from another year be swapped in? If not again, how well do child seats mount and ride in the jump seats? (Although that's really not a real serious question, as I wouldn't feel good about that option just by looking at it.)

Again, my main reason for buying an etx.-cab is for the ability to carry two adults (my wife and I), and two kids - baby seat, and booster-type seat. What are my options?

I am able to get this truck @ wholesale, and, again, it's sharp, so I REALLY like it. I just hope that there's an easy way to get a rear bench in there!

Thanks in advance guys!!

Wade

Hrmm, thats a perdicament. Mine has a bench in the back, and the 94+ have benches with head rests. I don't know when they started benches but I'd rather have my babes(8 & 10 now) in the bench seat and child seats than those sideways seats...as they get older they tend to bang their heads side to side

I'm sure the newer benches would fit in...but as for a direct bolt up i'm not sure. This is worth calling your dealer parts/service about and see if they were available for your truck. Anther question to ask about is seat belts. Mine has should belts for the 2 outer positions and a lap belt for the middle.

Another option is getting one from a junk yard and using high grade hardware and bolt in your own if there isn't a direct bolt-up.

I believe the child seats will work on the bench, tho the bottom(seat part) are somewhat short. Its not till they are 16 years old when the back seat leg room becomes an issue.

Cool Thanks inski...

I actually got to drive the truck today, and got to try it out with the whole family. I buckled the baby in the center upfront, and put my 3.5yr-old's booster in one of the jump seats. It actually fit quite well, and he loved the view! He could easily out the front or back. Alternatively, there is room to strap both child seats on the front bench (no airbags to worry about) if my wife isn't along for the ride(mostly, she's not).

I understand what you're saying about the bench seat not being very deep in the back - that's a consideration. There's a junkyard not far from me that's really nice - however, they only deal with dealers/shops - no public. I may see if I can get someone to check with them and see about a good used rear bench.... I think I could get it mounted with some quality hardware )and I have a friend who can weld, if needed). Seat belts would be the only concern there.

Anyways, sorry to ramble , but thanks again for the input, and I'd love to hear any input that anyone else has as well!

Thanks,

Wade

Thumbs up

Pull the carpet back and see if you have bolt holes. But sounds like you are all set anyways.

New state law here...every kid under 60 lbs has to be in a boost seat. Every kid under 12 has to be in the back seat (if you have one).
My kids are huge (100+), they ride in the front of the truck when ever mom is not with us Matter of fact I think they like riding up front better than Mom does. I guess we'll make Mom ride in back from now on.

When I put the LMI lift kit on my rear seat I looked at the bolt pattern for the rear bench. ALl it is is 2 bolts on each side that are about 5 inches apart. The frame for the seat bolts to this and the whole bench rotates on it.
