I bought a chevy!!

I hoped that worked on getting some attention...I didn't realy buy a chevy.
I need some quik help!!
I'm trying to remove my water pump, it's got 4 bolts holding it down, I removed the bolts(they were very hard to remove cuz of rust) so I was expecting the waterpump to just pop off, but thats not the case, it won't budge, I know I got all the bolts, is it normal for it to be that hard to remove...I sprayed it realy good with WD-40 and called it a night, I'll try again in the morning.

Anyone have any idea's on what else to try to get this pump off?

Hit It.

That is if you are going to replace it. Just don't pry in between the water pump and the engine for you could damage the mating surface and be in for lots of leaks.

Oh man! I went and got out my combat gear and was ready for you!
seriously, i don't mind chevys. They have their own strong points and weak points... but that has nothing to do with waterpumps...carry on.

i was gonna say the same thing. dont hit it, look at it and find the bolts youre missing. i cant remember how many i took off to remove my water pump, but i know it was around 6 or so. i had to take off the bracket that holds teh alternator also, did you do that?

I've never seen a water pump with only 4 bolts either, make sure you've got them all. And make sure your actually unbolting the water pump not something else like the starter... just kidding.

Actualy guys..there was only 4 bolts(4.9L)...I didn't need to end up hitting it, just a few tugs and it popped off...after a few hours of taking the old pump off and putting the new one on it leaked!!!!
I must not have cleaned the surface good enough because I was kinda rushed, I'm car pooling with someone the rest of the week to work so after work I'll work on getting the new pump off and doing a better job on seeling it.
I used Blue RTV silicone...any other suggestions?
Silicone just doesn't seem right for this application?.?.?

4 bolts for the fan
4 bolts for the pulley
4 bolts on the pump to the block!

I'm not going crazy!

You must thoroughly clean the block, and use minimal RTV on the gasket.

Take care,
-Chris

RTV ? i hate RTV !!! thats half your problem right there , use "high tack" . clean the surfaces good . high tack the gasket to the pump . wait a few minutes . then high tack it to the block when you install it . i have always used this method and never have had one leak . for filler type sealer i use non hardening permagasket . (like on threads of bolts and in corners of like intakes and oil pans etc..)

Most of the waterpump leaks I had were caused by the gasket sliding when I installed the pump...

Thanks guys, I'll start tearing it apart again tonight.
I think I've had enough of this truck though...I'm looking into trading it in, I've said that a few times the last 2 years I've had it...but this time I'm prety serious, I've been looking into my options for a new vehicle....I'd like to stay with Ford but I absolutely hate the new f150's and my neighbor is a employee for GM and he can get me a big discount on a new seirra. I still owe around $10000 on my loan for this truck and I know a dealership won't give me that much (or anything close)for this thing so nothing would happen for a few months.

I hear ya. I only use Gasgacinch, but I didn't want to start him on an endless mission trying to find some. As far as non-hardening Permacrap, well, I hate that stuff. It's hardened on me too many times, and when it does, it becomes very fragile, and glass-like. It shatters, and leaves fragments in places where you'd really rather not have them. Still, what ever works for you works, so go with it!

Take care,
-Chris
