Air pump
Air pump
Are there any negative effects to disconnecting the air pump tube from the exhaust? The reason is i am running a new custom exhaust on my truck. I attacked the old exhaust with a sawzall but completely forgot about the air pump tube that goes to the cat. When i finaly noticed it i just said screw it and hacked that off too. I wouldn't think it would cause any problems but i just wanted another opinon. Actually i might as well remove the pump all together and free up some HP.

On the same note, where can i find a performance muffler with duel 2" in, single out? I have been able to find any flowmasters that size. Actually the truck sounds great now with open manifolds, but i don't think the neighbors, or the cops, would like it
I am planning on running pipes later today, but i want a muffler because i don't want to hear exhaust pop when i let off the gas, and i don't want to lose low end torque.

BTW, theres a new pic of my truck in the sig below>>>

I ran my air pump disconnected for 2-3 months. I makes a screwy sound at idle...pfpfpfpfppfpfppf.
At high throttle an aweful sound shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. and a squeeking sound from one of the valves in the back, occasionally. No adverse effects to pump as far as I can tell. I was gonna eliminate mine but fixed the tube instead

The purpose of the tube to the cat was to help heat it so that it worked. if the cat is gone, then you don't need the tube. If the cat remains, the cat will slowly clog with the tube disconnected.
