Question True dual exhaust

I have a '94 F150 4x4 with the 5.0 HO engine- I am wanting to run true dual exhaust- are there any consequences to not having an O2 sensor on the pipe that they cut into to run the pipe for the drivers side of the truck?- I dont have but 1 cat and a "Y" where the other one used to be-the muffler is stock- I am going to go with the 2" pipe since I have been reading about possible low end torque loss if I use the 2.5"- The mufflers will be turbos- I want a good throaty sound but not so loud that my neighbors cringe everytime they hear me crank up-

Any suggstions/comments- good or bad appreciated-thanks

from what i understand if you go to true duals you have to install two o2 sensors . and wire them into the ecm . others maybe able to shed more light on that

I believe that 02 sensor on the '94 is in front of the cat, so you do not have to worry about it, just split the factory Y Pipe into duals. I would run 2.25" pipes, I did on my '92 and had no loss whatsoever. 2" pipes will actually decrease your performance and cut down on mileage and will actually restrict your exhaust. The idea of duals is to free up as much as you can. I am running true duals on my '99 now with 2.5" pipes with no loss of torque.

The cheaper turbos on the market will not give you much sound at all and I do not know how welll they actually flow.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Do you still have the factory single O2 sensor setup now? On my '95 the O2 sensor is in a small crossover pipe near the ends of the two primaries. Seems that it would be easy to leave as is and install the duals after cutting your Y pipe out.

Thanks for the input guys- I was hoping another O2 sensor wouldnt have to be added so I wanted to ask- I hope to have it done tommorow-

Fordman 302- I've been trying to figure out why the 2" would be the way to go-seems to me that the bigger the diameter the freer the exhaust would flow- I've got a choice of the 2, 2.25 or 2.5-go with the 2.25 over the 2.5?- Obviously I want to use which ever is going to give the best performance- Thanks for your help

The 2" is probably too small. Your choice is between 2.25 and 2.5. The 2.25 will give improved performance in the low to middle RPM range, the 2.5 in the upper. For most trucks the 2.25 would seem the better choice. FWIW Ford puts a 2.25 on the stock 5.0 HO in the Mustangs and they frequently get upgraded to 2.5 as part of the modification process. You're looking at a heavier vehicle, with much taller tires and not nearly as much top end power as the HO. I'd tend to stick with the 2.25.

where did you notice the power increase? low, mid or top end? any loss of power anywhere? also, do you have aftermarker headers or stock manifolds? congrats on the exhaust!

Thumbs up

Truck is running really good since making the dual conversion-the K&N FIPK really comes into it own with all that air coming in now being able to get out- I'm getting a good response in all the RPM ranges

donate 54- I dont have headers-only stock manifolds

I upped my timing to 15 degrees BTDC and truck is running good-no detonation problems

Thanks again to all for your help
