I just purchased a 1996 F-150 XL, 4.9 I-6, 5spd. I was wondering the power specs on this motor. I know to be torquey but thats all i do know. More specific numbers would be greatly appreciated. On a side note future plans include a 4X2 to 4X4 conversion, as well as a motor swap; 351 or 460.

I do not have I6 specs but there are people here who do. Keep checking back and we should have you hooked up with the proper info. Your 300 will treat you well.

 

It's either 145 hp or 150 hp, @ 3400 rpm, and either 260 ft.lbs or 265 ft.lbs, @ 2000 rpm. It depends on your trans code and your axle code, located on your VC Label, inside the driver side door jamb.

Don't let the numbers fool you, though. The 300 is probably the best engine Ford ever made. Especially for 4x4ing.
