Just thought I'd share this with y'all...

Last night I raced my friend. He has a 1996 Chevy Z71, with a 350, and stock tires. And I'm sure most of you guys know that I have a 1990 302 with 35" mud tires so it wasn't quite a fair race by a longshot, but I figured what the heck!

So right off the line he had me by a truck length. With my big tires and new intake manifold, my truck is pretty sluggish right off the line. But, over the remainder of the race, he might have gained maybe another truck length, so I guess I lost by about 2 truck lengths, but less than half a second I'm sure. All in all, the race was MUCH closer than I thought it was gonna be. Even he admitted that the race was closer than expected. I told him we should race when I get my aluminum cylinder heads. Throw in some 4.56 gears, a chip, and a shift improvement kit and who knows?

 

302's surprise a lot of Chevy owners every day. They're tough and quick motors. The 305 Chevy should be so good! Now if your buddy had a 305, the story would be different.

 

I bet if you had some 30"s on you'd been a length closer, not that we'd ever participate in street racing

There is a guy I run into at the local Lowes with a TBI Z71. He still shakes his head when he sees me.

He gets about the same jump off the line, maybe a truck. By 35 or so I am closing the margin, by the time I hit 2nd he is toast! In think my mods have narrowed any torque advantage he has but the 3.31s I have kill me off the line.

Other than exhaust I don't know if he has any other mods. I have intake, exhaust, pulleys, and ignition. He keeps asking if I have a 351! lol
