Clutch problem - Urgent!
Clutch problem - Urgent!
My dads 1995 f-150. The other day he started having problems getting it in gear. The clutch cylinder resevoir was almost empty so he topped it off. Still having problem, it was almost impossible to get it in 1st. I checked the master cylider, no leakage. The slave is in the tranny so you can't see it but i stuck my fingers inside and didn't feel any wetness so i thought maybe some air got into the system. I bled the system following the instructions in the haynes manual. I did it twice now it is worse, go in any gear, clutch won't disengage when you push the pedal down. It's possible i bled it wrong (although i followed the instructions). But what would cause the previous problems other than a leaky slave?

3 months ago I did the same thing..my resivoir was almost empty but not completely..but it was enough for air to get in and my slave to get stuck...probly going to need to put a new slave in...might as well do the clutch depending on how long ago it was done...the bleeding is prety simple I'm sure you did it right...same as bleeding brakes basicly...just make sure you're pumping that peddle when you loosen that valve cap...but no matter how many times I bled it it wouldn't work for me..that slave was stuck good...couldn't get it into 1st also so I had to start in second.
Thanks for the ideas but i got it working. The book said to pump the clutch 50 times after bleeding it to build pressure back up in the slave. Apparently there was a lot of air in there. After pumping it about 200 times it came back and shifts like normal. Just as i was getting ready to the tranny too
Anyways it will need a new clutch soon so i'll be sure to change the slave while im in there.
