Great forum guys-
I've got a '92 f150 supercab with the 5.8l engine and auto trans. It's got about 50k miles. I use it mostly to pull the boat and haul stuff home from Home Depot. What would be the best way to increase power without going into the engine (or spending a fortune)? Chip, K&N, exhaust? It pulls the boat we have now fine, but a bigger one could be in the future. Also, I'm hoping that I can get more power without hurting the mileage too much.
Thanks for the help.

PKRWUD-
I have an open differential with 3.08 gears. The boat/trailer I have now is probably 2500# and it pulls it ok, but I think a heavier boat might need 3.55's (a powertrax wouldn't hurt either-got stuck the last time we went camping). The mileage is not that good even with the tall gears (towing or not).
How loud is the intake noise with the K&N (or others) intake setup? Also- where is a good place to mailorder the stuff I need?
Thanks for the help.

That's what I suspected. Get rid of those gears, and get a set of 3.55's. It will make a HUGE difference.
The difference with the K&N FIPK, noisewise, is like the difference between a 2 barrel and a 4 barrel at WOT. Sounds mean.
I would try calling Jim Baker (there are two Jim's there) at Hawaii Racing (805) 583-8880. Tell him you're a friend of mine (Peckerwood), and he'll treat you well. He'll probably make some nasty remark about me, but he'll take good care of you.
Take care,
-Chris
