Thumbs up

Good. I think I'm up to 13 or so now...after 3 months of listening to my ping, I've finally eliminated it. yeaaaah. A whole new monster now. I'm using OD again too.

inski,

How did you eliminate the ping? (are you talking detonation?) I have a nagging ping as well, and the truck is such a dog, especially in overdrive and part throttle situations. And my mpg sucks too.

thanks alot,
scott

wed I was able to check timing that was acceptable at 8 btdc-I'll bump it once I have time again.

Made sure 7&8 wires weren't running parrallel at any point in their paths. Seperated with zip ties where necessary.

Did a Wynn's 3 part Fuel System Clean... to rid cumbustion chamber and intake of carbon build up.

To be honost I think it was the 7+8 wires all along!

I'll let yoy know how far I can go w/ timing. Now that ping is gone I bet at least 12 maybe even 14. It feels that good.

Thanks,

I'll try seperating those wires today. I'll let you know what happens...

Question for McGyver

..I just picked up a 1990 F350 ( with the 5.8 litre )...I noticed that you had gotten your MPG to an almost acceptable level....

What have you done that was the most effective, yet not too $$$

Just curious, cuase I'm pulling about 10 right now if I'm lucky....

Truck runs great, but it's a pig.

colorado,
remember, an f350 is a seriously heavy truck, so its gonna be tough getting good gas mileage on a heavy truck like that with a 351.

The usual tune-up stuff. Plugs, wires, rotor button, cap, fuel filter, K&N air filter. Check timing and adjust as needed, check alignment and air pressures. 10 mpg in a 350 aint bad.

is your rig 4wd?

as inski said . but i also just got done reading the ecm and replacing about $600 worth of sensors and doing a tune up /oil change etc.. it still wasn't back to that mpg (was closer to 13.5 ) til this last tank . when it was really bad before i did all the work i was down to 11.5 .

bad mpg...

Yep...and did I mention crew cab with slightly oversize tires...

Do the K&N's make a big diff?

and how about retarding the timing a bit?..I've heard that if I get it BTDC ( a couple of degrees ) it can help as well.
