Lifts

I have a 1995 F150 and am starting to look into lifts. I'm trying to decide if I want 6 inches or 4. Does anyone here with a similar year have pictures online with either lift size? It's a daily driver so I dont know if I want 6, but I dont want to get 4 and be dissatisfied. Thanks

go with the 4" suspension lift . you should be able to stick 35's on it . if later you decide it isn't enough you can always add a body lift relitively cheap .

Hey Ford4Fun - What size tires do you have on that?

McGyver - Unfortunately they do not make body lifts for my truck (Specifically, the 4.9l I6). The Steering column is a prohibitive favtor somehow. I would have to do something custom.

if tisa daily driver, i would go with the 4" lift. if you go off-road, the 4" lift willwork great with 33's and still leave you plenty of room for wheel travel, or you could even try to fit 35's. i have a 3" body lift on mine, and i can fit 33's with absolutely no problem.

anytime you do a body lift the steering column / shift linkage is going to pose a problem . but it shouldn't be that big a deal to fix . as far as your truck it isn't any different then one with a 5.0 or 5.8 all the body is the same . any 87-96 ford body lift will work .

MacGyver - That's all well and good, and it does make sense, however, that is an inacurate assumption. Unfortunately, I can't give you a very good reason why. All I know, is I have talked with several four wheel shops in the area and have heard the same thing from all of them. 4WheelParts wholesalers called a couple body lift manufacturers for me and the reason why there were no body lifts for my particular engine was explained to them. They didn't pass on much of the info to me except for it having to do with the steering column an dhow it hooks up with the 4.9L I6. One local shop said they would be willing to Try if I wanted them to, but they couldn't guarantee me anything based on their observations.

UrbanCowboy,

Well, it all depends on what your tastes are. I'm sure you've seen trucks with 3", 4", and 6" lifts. Which look do you like the best? Being a daily driver, I wouldn't go any higher than 6", but I don't feel 6" is too much. I have a 4" lift on my truck and I drive that thing around all day. Freeway, around town, you name it and I wish I would have gotten a 6" lift. But since I've already invested $1800 in just the lift alone, I can't justify swapping out this lift for a 6" lift and have to spend another $2400. But if you do decide to go with a lift, check out Tuff Country for a 4" lift, which is what I have. I am very pleased with it so far. Great alignment, the truck sits level, great turning radius, and I can fit Dunlop 35" Mud tires with very little trouble. It's also held up pretty well off road. However, if you go with a 6" lift, I would HIGHLY recommend a Skyjacker lift. They are a very reputable brand and offer the most complete, most rugged, and best looking suspension lift for your money.

Of note, this being your daily driver, I would NOT recommend getting BOTH a body lift and a supension lift!!! In fact, the place you mentioned, 4 Wheel Wholesale parts won't even install a body lift on a truck that already has a suspension lift and vice versa. According to them, it isn't geometrically sound to do so, which I will not argue with. Please, stick to one lift. Especially since they make all kinds of lift sizes to fit your needs and budget in one package.

If you just want a lift so you can have 33" inch tires, go with either a 3" body lift or a 3"/4" suspension lift. If you think you would ever want to go with a 35" tire, definately go with a 6" lift. Six inches really isn't that much. I got used to my 4" lift fast and it looks short to me now! I will have pictures of my truck up hopefully by tomorrow night. Hope this helps.

I'm personaly set on putting the 4inch with 33's on my todo list...I do believe bigger is better,I would want the 6inch w/35's but I only have a I6 engine...seems like it would be to much on the poor guy.

Also another thing...why are other places like Skyjacker so much more exspensive then roughcountry?

When I do get the lift, I will probably be putting 31" on since I can't afford both. Either way it will look goofy until I get more money. I have been leaning towards the 4" the past few days looking at pictures in the Readers Rides of Petersons. Thanks for all the great input

I have 315/75 R16 roughly 35' I love the stance it gives, I had to put helper springs on the front to level it some.

Go with the 6". Two weeks after you put on the 4" lift you will want to go bigger. Trust me, i've been there.

If you still want it.....

Here's a pic of mine, 4" lift with 35x14.50's, clears it great, however the tires are too wide (they rub the radius arms). I'd go with a 35x12.50, or some offset rims. Good luck!
