1/4 mile, 0-60 times.....

Just wondering,

Has anyone timed their trucks in the quarter mile and/or accelerating from 0-60? I ran some trials tonight so I can gauge my performance gains from the pulleys and the chip. My pulleys will go on tomorrow, and my chip should be in by the end of the week. I know my truck is a large, heavy vehichle and the 35" tires don't help matters any, but I was still a little disappointed in the results. It seems like my engine has very little power above 3400 rpm's. It's almost like a I-6 in disguise or something. Granted, they were far from "official" times, as it was just me and a stopwatch on an empty backroad. I couldn't put the "1-3-1" shifting technique to use since it's kinda hard to hold a stopwatch and a column shifter at the same time. Also, my engine temp. wasn't ideal since I had been driving around for a while, but I still wanted to get a ballpark figure of where my truck stood. I just hope these figures belong to a very large ballpark :o

dvldog458,

Right on. Your engine mods. list looks almost exactly like what I have or want to have!!! Are these times with the lift and the tires that are on there now? If so, that's pretty awesome that you're running 17's with 39" meats and a naturally aspirated 302 engine!!!

Yes.
Thats the best time with all my stuff on the truck......it was kinda funny when i pulled up to the burn out box and the announcer said,"this big truck is gonna try to peel out.....better get some soap."
That kinda got me pissed so i held the smoker until they banged on my drivers side door to stop.

The rims are actually 16.5's tall and 12'' wide.
The tires are Super Swampers 38.5'' tall (which actually measure closer to 40's) and 16'' wide.

Man,what a bitch rotating these meats!

Yeah, my '88 F-150 with a 5.0 has a 12.45 quarter mile time, and I can do 0-60 in about 5 seconds flat, all stock. It's a very rare SVT 5.0 liter. Not many people know about them.

Unfortunatly, my brothers 3 cyclinder Geo Prizm can beat my F150. It's an ultra rare Shelby Prizm with a Charger...spits out an amazing quarter mile time of 10.99!!

If you're a colloctor and interested in these rare antiquities, I'll give you my E-Mail address!

Sorry, I just had to..... I'd be happy to get 8.0 seconds from the old 150!! Have fun guys!

Dvldog,

How much did the throttle position sensor enhancer help?

$90 sounds expensive for a device that simply throws the truck into passing gear at 70% throttle. Am I missing something? Sounds like it would just make the truck rev higher and shift more--especially when pulling a trailer.

What 4 mods made the most difference?

-Mike

The throttle enhancer helped alot. Ya know when u mash the gas at a dead stop and you have that 1/4 to 1/2 second of nothing?
With the enhancer..........no dead space. I felt the difference and i think it's worth the money.

The 4 best mods were

1 Edelbrock heads (night and day difference)
2 Dual exhaust w/ full length headers
3 Edelbrock intake and throttle body w/ K&N filter charger kit
4 Throttle enhancer

Cool

Haven't done a whole lot to the truck but you can see from the list below as to what it has on it. This is the best so far 17.469 at 78.12 mph. I am hoping to improve alittle with a set of Bassani equal-length headers soon to be added to the mix. You have to remember, I am weighing in at around 5000 lbs. with my supercab, long box truck. You guys should be close to my weight, if not alittle more.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'
Dean
